Chester is 3 years old. We adopted him from a local rescue shelter a year ago. He loves to play with drinking straws! We lost both of our previous cats in road accidents 3 years ago and the house just didn't feel right without a kitty. I plagued my husband for months to get another one but he kept refusing, however he had his eye on a new motorbike so we struck a deal, a cat for a bike! I explained to the shelter staff that we already had a 100 lb German Shepherd who was used to living with cats but I needed to make sure we adopted a cat with attitude, one who knew how to put a dog in it's place. Chester is a big cat (about 15 lbs.) and was found as a stray wandering around local farms on the edge of town. His coat was very dirty and the shelter staff had shaved his back as his fur was matted. We have lots of coyotes in those areas so I figured if he'd managed to handle wild coyotes he'd certainly have no bother with the dog! Sure enough he jumped straight out of the cat carrier, took a leisurely stroll around the house, 15 minutes later he was stretched out on our bed like he'd lived with us forever. He's such a sweetie and even my husband loves him to bits (even though he pretends not to). By littleredrooster from Calgary, Canada Contest Contender!

I bought some pull-apart bread last week. The tray that is on the bottom is black, but can't be recycled in this state. The center has a ring in the middle, and two other rings larger toward the edges. The first thing I thought of was doing this, and wanted to share it with you all. I put a dip of half hummus and half cottage cheese, then surrounded them with crackers. You can use a glass dome and put something festive inside too, using the dome upside down to show what it is, then decorate with veggies and other things, even those that are non food. If you can find one of these in the bread section, you might want to try it out. BTW: the clear bread section is good for starting plants, small toys, craft items, paper plates, and just about anything you might need. Hope this inspires others! Reflective Decorative Tape on Your Breaker Box Be safe during power outages! Use some sort of reflective paint, stickers or tape on your breaker box, such as I have done in the photo. If you have to tell someone how to find it during an outage, something glowing bright green (or your color choice) makes it much easier for them to locate in the dark! Pooter is a one and a half year old Weimaraner. My husband and I were walking through the French Quarter of New Orleans, one Christmas. We saw a man with a box full of weimaraner puppies. All girls and one boy. We took the boy. $100 for a pure breed is good, but they had no papers (not important to us). We took him to the vet for a checkup. He told us all the "little issues" Pooter had. Inverted eyelashes (they fixed themselves?), a congenital spinal issue that does not allow him to run, sit or walk like most dogs (It doesn't matter to us.) The vet said that Pooter has no idea he has a problem, so it's not a problem. We loving refer to him as "special." He likes to play with his giant stuffed lamb and chew on his kong. He does love to eat anything. He loves fresh veggies and fruit. The vet says to keep away from onions and chocolate, but I am sure he would eat that too. His favorite is avocado and red bell pepper. He loves bananas and green grapes. He came into our life fore a reason. A few months after we got Pooter, our older Shepard, Baby, passed away from bone cancer. It devastated my husband, since he had helped Baby come into this world. Pooter will never fill that dog bed, but he is quite entertaining and loving. We are lucky to have him in our life. Sadie is about a year old. I was told at the animal shelter that she's a mix between a smooth collie/shepherd mix. I've been told she's an American Eskimo/shepherd mix. What do you think? I bought Sadie at Wayside Waifs, an animal shelter, in January '09. She loves many things such as her walks and training time in parking lots, racing around in the back yard after the Frisbee, and her bouncy toys, she also loves to chew on bones I buy her. She has been very hard to potty train. I've had to close off rooms and block carpet areas she's had accidents. After doing that, no more problems. By Barbara from Ratown, MO Contest Contender!

Start Buying Christmas Gifts in January After Christmas, I start a Christmas Gift Tote for the next year. I place a tote, in my craft room and each month buy a gift to add to the tote or if I find bargains while shopping on particular gifts I purchase 2 or 3 of them and add them to the tote as well. Then in November, I get the tote and start wrapping gifts. I have found that is it a little easier on the pocketbook and less stress. By Librasunshine from Owensboro, KY Contest Contender!

If you have multiple size dogs, it is cheaper to split a large tube or two of Frontline to cover them all, than it would be to buy a smaller tube for each of them. Today I bought two large tubes of Frontline plus and used one on the large dog and split one among the smaller dogs based on the measurement of the 100 pound tube. That would mean that the amount to put on the shoulder of the dogs are as follows:
For some reason the Frontline spray stopped working on the dogs and I went and did this today. They are feeling much better even if it takes 24 hours to totally work. It is much cheaper this way. You just have to find a bottle to put it in and a cheap medicine syringe that are free at most drug stores, do the math or have someone else do it, and keep it out of the reach of children. You have to keep records also of when you do their shoulders with it. I don't know if it is safe to use Frontline plus for dogs on cats, probably not. By Robyn Fed Editor's Note: Measurements are approximate and not intended to be used as a guide. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for this any any pet treatments. Contest Contender!

Use Chili Sauce as a Copper Cleanser My mother is in her late 70's and as such, has a lot of copper pots, which have tarnished over the years. She had been using copper polish but found it becoming expensive. Last week, she spilled some " Taste of Asia " chili sauce on one of her pots. When she wiped it it off, she found that it had cleaned the pot as well as the copper polish. She was so pleased that she did all of her pots with the chili sauce. At less than a $1.00 (Canadian), she was ecstatic. By Solarbaby Contest Contender!

Use Teething Gel for Minor Cuts Out of desperation one day when my child got hurt, I needed a way to ease the pain of a cut. After speaking with the pediatric nurse, I discovered the additional uses of teething gel (Orajel). We use it on cuts, scrapes, burns, etc. to ease the initial pain. I have come to find it works wonderfully and doesn't sting. Of course, it shouldn't be used for all injuries, but it works great and doesn't rinse off if cleaning out a wound. Long gone are the days of tears and fighting to clean out a wound. By Cheryl from Lafayette, IN Contest Contender!

Halloween: Upper and Lower GI Costumes This is a clever and inexpensive Halloween costume, great for adults! Halloween parties which require one to wear a costume can be frustrating if you're not handy with the sewing machine, and like me are too frugal to rent one or buy one. When my daughter-in-law was pregnant, that presented a bigger challenge. My creative son came up with a really clever idea for their costumes that year. She wore a loose army fatigue shirt, available at thrift stores or ones which specialize in old military items, and he wore a pair of fatigue pants. Their attire caused much conversation, mainly people asking what they were dressed as. The response "She's an upper GI and I am a lower GI!" By Sandy from Elon, NC Contest Contender!

Rate It: Circuit Breaker Keeps Tripping I have a breaker that is tripping every couple of days. It services 6 outlets on our family room. 2 have nothing in them, 2 have a single 23w CF fixture, one is used to charge laptops, and one powers our entertainment center (sound system, satellite receiver, DVD player, plasma TV, Xbox). The breaker is not hot when it trips, and it usually happens in the middle of the night when the equipment (all except the sat receiver) are off. How often do breakers go "bad"? I'm quite comfortable swapping out the 15A breaker myself, but if the problem persists, I assume it is the result of a short and requires a tone generator, etc. Thoughts? Rate It: Computer Monitor Does Not Display Image I have a 9 to 10 year old desktop running Windows XP which I disconnected in order to move furniture. When I reconnected it, it won't work. Well, actually I get power to both the tower and the monitor, but no "picture" on the monitor and in order to power down I have to disconnect. Can I connect either the monitor or tower to my laptop, running Windows Vista, to see if maybe all I need is a new monitor? Any advice would be appreciated. I don't want to dump it if it can be saved, but I don't want to spend money to be told it's beyond saving. Many thanks.
