I recently bought a wall paper border of the backyardigans on a sale table, and cut some of the characters out and used them on a big poster and on table decorations and then used the rest as a banner. I paid a dollar for it, and it sure stretched. My Granddaughter loved it - we even cut characters out and put them on both sides of a Popsicle stick and used as decorations on the cake.
Only buy a few item of your theme and use coordinating colors from the theme. Plain colors are cheaper and it actually looks nicer. Not so busy. Also you can use poster board in your colors to make your own decorations.(
