My son goes through a lot of white socks. Instead of throwing them away, I cut off the ribbing about 1 inch towards the heel. These are great to protect your arms when washing walls above your head and painting, all kinds of messies. I keep some under the kitchen and bathrooms sink and some in my container with my painting supplies. These are adult sized socks.

excellent idea. I also turn the athletic socks with holes in them inside out and repurpose them as bath mitts. I like them better than the standard terry washcloths.
