Impromptu Italian Skillet Casserole |
|
|
|
Something I just threw together last night.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 2 green peppers, diced
- 2 small yellow onions, diced
- 1 can (4 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 1/2 cups penne pasta, cooked
- 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
Brown turkey, peppers and onions. Drain any excess fat. Add mushrooms and tomato sauce. Simmer for a few minutes.
While meat mixture is simmering, prepare penne according to package directions. Drain. Stir into meat mixture until pasta is thoroughly coated with sauce.
Top with cheese and serve. Makes about 4 servings.

RE: Impromptu Italian Skillet Casserole
We've tried using ground turkey meat in different dishes for years. We've decided that we prefer the ground turkey roll sausage better in every dish, whether it be meatloaf, hamburger skillet dishes, or even tacos, etc. Your recipe they posted sounds like it might even be better with the ground turkey sausage. We've found the prices to be the same as the plain ground turkey. We're using the Wampler or Pilgrim's Pride brands (same company). The plain ground turkey is in an orange & blue colored roll package. The ground turkey roll sausage is in an orange & green colored roll package. Both are sold side by side at our local Walmart SuperStore. My hubby bought it by mistake, & now we're glad he did.
