Painting a Dining Set

I have a dining set from the 70s. It is dark. I wanted to brighten up my dining room and want to paint it. Do you do anything different when painting a table? For sanitary purposes? Is there something you put over the paint, like a top coat? I am on a tight budget! Thanks!

Craft: Rhinestone Baseball Cap

I have seen some glitzy looking baseball caps in the stores but they carry a hefty price. So I decided to add a little "bling" to a cap that I had. I just happened to have the fabric glue too and all I had to do was buy the rhinestones, which I purchased at Walmart for under $3. I just used the fabric glue to put them on, I found a tweezers worked well for this.

Source: Saw something similar in store and thought I could make my own.

Petunia (Vietnamese Potbellied Pig)

This is Petunia, she will be 8 yrs. old this July. She is a Vietnamese Potbellied Pig. We rescued her as a orphan when she was just a few days old. She likes to sunbathe in her kiddie pool and steal my husband's tools when he is outside working.

Pigs are highly intelligent, sensitive, affectionate, curious, social, and interesting beings. They can make great pets but please do your homework first as there are specific zoning requirements regarding having them and they get much larger than most people realize when they get a piglet. They need proper mental, physical, and social stimulation. Please Opt to Adopt!

Baking Soda for a Canker Sore

If you have a canker sore on your lip (or worse, on your tongue) you can help it heal within a day by putting a small bit of baking soda right on the sore. Then let it drool for about half a minute. Rinse your mouth with cold water and no more hurt. You can follow up with swishing around warm salt water if you like. Usually one application does the trick.

Source: I've been doing this since I was seven years old. My mom was a believer in baking soda, so am I and I'm now 55.

Use Fabric Paint to Create Non-slip Surfaces

Use a few dabs of fabric paint (the puff paint 3D type) for non-slip items. Let dry before use. Draw designs on the bottoms of knitted slippers so it's not slippery.

Make coasters with recycled CDs, felt, and dabs of paint on bottom. Won't move around on you! Add a few stripes to the soles of slippery tennis shoes or flip flops. Or add it to the bottom of slipping cutting boards.

Use your imagination, the possibilities are endless.

Check Your Hotel Bill

Upon checking out of our hotel I noticed that they had charged us $1.50 plus tax a day for use of the safe in our room. I told the clerk that we had never used the safe and he said, "We can't tell if the safe has been used or not so we assume it has unless we're told otherwise." We saved $6.36 from our bill, more than enough to cover the tolls on the way home.

Chore Incentives for Kids and Adults

Here is a tip to help organize time, reward labor, and ensure you get to work on that project that's been sitting in the corner.

Take a sheet of paper. With a pencil, write on one side all the chores that the person doesn't like to do/needs to do. On the other side, write a corresponding reward (15 minutes of beading, 5 minutes dance, 1 hour sewing, etc). When a chore is completed, write down the rewards earned. I write mine on the dry erase board. To personalize, I reward myself with a bigger reward for tasks I really dislike, and make extra incentives for stuff I'm working on.

For example: I don't like doing the kitchen, so completing that task will earn me an hour to sew. I'm working on getting outside more, so I came up with a separate reward for going outside, walking a mile, and running errands. I also reward myself for each chore, so that I'm not stressed out to clean the whole house in a day.

This helps in being a good daily incentive (take it from a homemaker) and not rewarding yourself/child's labor with "more labor" (a stressful habit). It's a nice stress reliever to "earn" time to get to those things you always like to do, even if they could technically be called "labor" as well (enjoyment/fun makes a big difference!)

Enjoy your day!

Organizing Computer Cords

Like everyone above thirty I have aches and pains. Mine aren't common; I can barely get around after a bout of meningitis. My computer went down, and my friend came over (he's a computer engineer) and fixed it.

When the time came to put it back and boot it up, I took masking tape and marked each cord that went into the tower. Now if I have to move the tower (or clean it), I can easily tell what cord goes where. Computer buffs know what goes where, and so they don't have to think about it. But in tight quarters, it is so easy to re-connect or troubleshoot about what cord may be loose. It worked for this dummy!

Deep Conditioning Treatment at Home

I'm a "from the box" redhead. This can result in needing a good deep conditioning once in awhile. The same goes for my teenage granddaughters with their natural blond hair.

Instead of using an expensive hair care product or going to the salon, before I go outside I wet my hair, put a good amount of my regular conditioner on it. I comb it through and wear a washable hat (baseball type works well).

Time goes by, all the while giving your hair a deep conditioning treatment. When you come in to wash your hair. You will be amazed at the softness that only cost you pennies!

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

A loaded minivan pulls into the only remaining campsite. Four children leap from the vehicle and begin feverishly unloading gear and setting up the tent. The boys rush to gather firewood, while the girls and their mother set up the camp stove and cooking utensils.

A nearby camper marvels to the youngsters' father, "That, sir, is some display of teamwork."

"I have a system," says the father. "No one goes to the bathroom until the camp is set up."

Website for Identifying Tools

I have been looking for a site to get prices and names of certain hand tools, etc. and cannot find one. I have a couple of unusual German ones and would like to know their value. I remember years ago there was a site that you could send a photo to and they would tell you it's value and the name of the item. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Repairing a GE Top Loading Washer

I have a GE Top load washing machine. The wash, rinse, spin, and 2nd rinse worked fine, but the final spin did not work. When I tried to run the spin by itself, the tub moved a little. I removed the front panel to check things out. The clutch pulley starts to move slowly, then stops.

The axle for the motor is still spinning, but the pulley is not moving. I pulled the pulley thinking it is worn, but after looking around the internet I am wondering if the motor is starting to wear out. Any ideas? I don't want to drop $100 on a new clutch pulley and replace the wrong part.

Circuit Breaker Keeps Tripping

My 15 amp circuit breaker keeps tripping. The only things that it operates are the garage door opener and the garage lights. I unplugged the garage door opener and turned off light and flipped back on, but it still trips.

When it does trip I can see an electric current or spark in the wire where it goes through the panel and out the bottom of the fuse box. Never any problems before, do you have any ideas? Thanks.

Using John Freida Shampoo for Blondes

I have naturally light brown hair with lots of blonde going through it. About two years ago I dyed my hair a reddish almost burgundy color. It soon faded to an auburn and slowly just adjusted to the color it has become now. My hair already had some hints of red in it, and now my "natural" hair is an auburn color with very little hints of blond in it.

I'd really like to bring out the natural blond in my hair. I was wondering if I used the John Freida shampoo for blondes, if it would do a good job of bringing out the subtle natural blonde in my hair or not, and how it would affect the rest of my hair.

Dog Pees on Furniture

I have been breeding Miniature and Toy Schnauzers for years, have 12 of them in the house and I have only had this problem twice, with other dog breeds. The first was a mini-Dachshund who eventually grew out of it, the current one is a Bichon-a-Poo.

They go to the bathroom on the furniture. They know it's bad, because they make sure I'm not around to see them do it.I wash spreads and covers in vinegar or enzyme odor removers and keep a vinyl tablecloth under the spread or furniture covers, but I'm changing and washing the covers every day.

We have a doggie door. The little Doxy was killed last year, but I'm trying to deal with the Bichon-a-Poo. I bred her on purpose in an attempt to grow her up but that has not worked. Her puppies are only 2 weeks old, so I can't just get rid of her. Who would want her anyway? I will say that in her case, she was kept in a filthy cage until she was 4 months old, 24-7. I had to pay $250 for her, but I still consider her a rescue.

However, she didn't do this until I had her for several months. Does anyone know why she is doing this or what to do about it?

Does anyone know the name of this game? It had it's own cards in 4 colors, and was for 2 or more players. Each round would have players looking to lay down a specific combination of numbers/colors.
