Bread O'Lantern
By Stella Rivet

Bread O'Lantern Here's an easy and fun way to serve dip at your Halloween party.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Round bread loaf (Sourdough works well)
  • Another loaf of bread for dipping
  • Your Favorite Dip (I made artichoke dip)
  • Extra Bread for dipping

Directions:

Cut out a circle in the top of the bread for the dip. Cut a jack-o-lantern face out of the side of the bread bowl, making sure not to cut all the way through unless you want dip coming out of the holes.

Fill the top with dip. You can cut up the top you cut out of the bread and use it for dipping bread. I used another loaf of french bread cut into pieces for additional pieces for dipping.

Halloween Rice Krispie Treats

Rice krispie treats can be made in holiday colors - add a bit of orange food coloring to the marshmallow mixture for Halloween. A few candy corns or a few Halloween M and M's on top is a nice touch.

Googly Eye Cake

Ingredients:

  • A cake mix for a double layer 10" round cake. (You'll also need the ingredients required by the cake mix instructions.)
  • Two cans of chocolate frosting.
  • A pastry bag and several tips (star and thin).
  • Two tubes of decorative icing (white and black).
  • An assortment of candy such as Necco Wafers, Life Savers (Gummy or Hard), M&Ms (Different Sizes), etc.

Directions:

Make two 10" round cakes using one box of cake mix. Cool and remove the cakes from the pans according to the instructions.

Place one layer on a plate, cover the top with frosting and frost the sides lightly.

Place the second layer on top.

Put the remainder of the frosting in the pastry bag and use the star tip to make the cake look "furry". You should cover the top of the cake and down the sides of the top layer with frosting.

Decorate the cake using the round candies and the decorative icing with the thin tip. Place two round candies side by side and affix smaller candies to the front using icing. The pupil of the eyes can be made using white icing.

Black icing can be used for eyebrows either above the eyes, around the eyes, or in a line slanted across each eye. Black icing can also be used for eye lashes. You can also add light glints and other effects.

Google Eyes Cake

Google Eyes Cake

Variations and Hints:

  • Brown makes for the best "fur" color, but other colors of frosting can be used.
  • A different flavor of frosting or a pudding can be used between the layer cakes.
  • We put the number candle on before the eyes so we were sure there'd be room for it.
  • Lighter candies should be placed on the sides of the cake so they don't slide down.
  • Some of the eyes can be centered and others at crazy angles for a googly eyes effect.

We got the idea for this cake from Nick Jr. magazine.

    Putrid Punch (Halloween Recipe)

This sick colored punch looks disgusting but tastes great.

    Ingredients

    • 1 13 oz. package lemon lime koolaid
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 8 cups water
    • 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate
    • 4 cups ginger ale
    • worm cubes (ice cubes with gummy worms frozen inside)
    • 3 scoops orange sherbet

    Directions

Empty koolaid into a punch bowl. Add sugar then water and stir until dissolved. Add orange juice concentrate. Just before serving, add the ginger ale and worm cubes and float the scoops of orange sherbet on top. Before long, the punch will be green and infested with worms. For extra effects hang a few gummy worms on the sides of your glass.

    Skull Cup Cakes
    By Stella Rivet

    • Yellow or white cake mix.
    • White frosting (I used cream cheese frosting because it is good.)
    • Hershey's kisses (I used the kind with caramel inside, also because they are delicious.)
    • Chocolate chips
    • Chocolate Chunks
    • Marshmallows
    • Black cake decorating gel
    • Muffin papers

    Skull Cupcakes

Make cupcakes according to the box.

When cupcakes have cooled completely you may begin decorating.

Cut marshmallows in half. Cut chocolate chunks into thirds.

Peel open one end of the muffin paper just enough to fit in one half of a marshmallow for the chin.

Frost the cupcake including the marshmallow with the white frosting. It helps to get a little frosting by the open part of the paper cup so it can be "glued" back around the cake.

    Skull Cupcakes

On top of where the marshmallow is place 3 to 4 slices of the chocolate chunks. This will make the mouth.

Place one chocolate chip for the nose, narrow part sticking up away from the skeleton's mouth.

Take two "Kisses" and place them upside down, tip pointing into the cake, to make the eyes.

    Skull Cupcakes

Use the black gel to make a pupil in the eyes (I know skulls don't have eyes but thought it looked cuter that way). If you do not want to buy the black gel just for this you can take a toothpick and use a dab of the white frosting.

You could freeze or refrigerate these if they were not going to be eaten for a while to help set the frosting.

    Yummy Mummies - Pizzas
    By Stella Rivet

You no longer have to fear what is behind those ancient bandages because the truth has been revealed, mummies are yummy!

    English Muffin Pizza Mummies

    Ingredients:

    • English Muffins
    • Pizza sauce, Marinara or even Alfredo sauce(if you want to try a different flavor).
    • Green Olives that already have pimento in it,(Sliced). (Black olives work fine you may want to find something to stick in the hole to make the pupil, ie: green onion, green pepper)
    • String Cheese,(Pulled apart).

    English Muffin Pizza Mummies

    Directions:

Break the english muffin in half (Toast if You want them crisper).

Spread pizza sauce on top of each side of the english muffin.

Pull apart the string cheese and place strips onto the muffin to make it look like a mummy, leaving and opening for the eyes.

Cut an olive into thirds, if you use the green olives with pimento you can now place two slices on to the English muffin.

    Preheat oven 350 degrees F.

Place mummies in oven for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

    Enjoy!

    "Pumpkin" Cupcakes
    By Stella Rivet

"Pumpkin" Cupcakes These "Pumpkin" Cupcakes are not pumpkin flavored but a festive cupcake for either Halloween or Thanksgiving.

    Ingredients:

    • Favorite spice cake recipe
    • Food Coloring
    • Green gel frosting
    • Icing Bag (optional)

    Cream Cheese Icing:

(My favorite recipe found on Thrifty Fun):

    • 1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 1 tsp. Vanilla

    Directions:

Make cup cakes according to recipe or package directions. Bake and cool.

Make cream cheese icing by mixing together cream cheese (softened), honey and vanilla. Mix well. Add red and yellow food coloring to make the frosting orange. Place frosting in a icing bag with a flat ribbon tip.

Frost the cupcakes with ribbon tip to make the shape of the pumpkin. I would have a practice cupcake to work with that you can scrape the frosting off just to get used to working with the frosting and moving it in the way you desire.

Another possibly easier way is to frost the cupcakes and use a butter knife to make the lines.

Using the green gel icing make the stem of the pumpkin and a leaf if desired.

Variation: Use black frosting and draw a Jack-O-Lantern face on them!
