Today's Tips

Healthy Milk Shake

Instead of using ice cream in your milk shake, take a couple bananas, chop them up and put them in your freezer. Once they are cold substitute them for ice cream in milk shake recipes. They can be pretty tasty.

Prevent Soggy Salads

To prevent soggy salads, take a small saucer or dish and put it upside down in the salad bowl. That will allow the salad to stay a elevated while the moisture collects at the bottom.

Cleaning Hairspray of a Bathroom Mirror

To clean the mirror in bathroom when it has hair spray on it, use warm water on a rag and wipe it good. Then use paper towels or a dry rag to dry it. This works GREAT!

Safe and Cheap Sting Treatment

Take a small bottle or lip balm tube, stuff it with cotton and saturate it with VINEGAR. It applies easily to insect stings and bites, can be used on scrapes, scratches and sunburns as well. Keep several in car, tackle box, backpack and don't forget the garden or back yard.

Inexpensive Gift Jars

I make gift jars and cans. I use empty food jars and coffee cans. Wash them clean and take the labels off and then use recycled wrapping paper to wrap the jar or can. This makes a neat gift jar that can also be made into a potpourri jar.

Avoid Stores and Malls

One of the most effective methods of plugging those leaks in the budget and buying impulsively is to stay out of the stores and malls. It was hard at first but now it is much easier. I noticed the difference in my budget immediately. My desires have decreased and it is a joy to have more money in my bank account.

Word of Mouth Advertising

I am a firm believer in the power of word-of-mouth advertising! If you are looking for a job, have kittens to give away, need to buy or sell a used car, etc, etc -- tell everybody you meet. If you throw enough stuff at a wall, some of it will eventually stick!

Use Baking Soda to Remove Hairspray from Your Hair

Put about a tablespoon of baking soda in your hand and then add your shampoo, wash your hair and it will get rid of all the hair spray, gel, etc. that has stayed in your hair, and it will come out extremely clean... Then use your conditioner too.

Meat Cleaning Tip

Before you cook any meat wash it off gently under slow stream of water. Then use a bowl or pot (or sink) large enough to hold meat and cover it with water. Add a slight handful of salt and let - DRAW`- for a little while. 5-10 minutes. What you see will be enough to make you sick knowing you have been eating this stuff.

Some meat processors dip food in a liquid freeze or preserver and it should be washed off.

Some of the older recipes called for "draw meat". Well, it also draws some of the old blood out of the meat and it will taste so much better after you cook it. To make "draw meat", when you boil the meat pour off the froth in the top of the pan as that froth is blood up in the water. Hope you eat better now.

Want to shave years off of your house mortgage?

If, for example, your mortgage payment is say, $1200 per month and you normally pay it on the 1st of the month, start paying $600 on the 1st of the month and then on the 15th of the month pay the additional $600. You are not paying anymore than you would normally but because you are now paying it bi-monthly you save a lot of money towards the principle. You will end up paying off your mortgage 5 to 7 years ahead of time. Happy days to those that do this.

Featured Feedback: RE: Saving Money on Dishwasher Soap

I do the same thing (use 1/2 the detergent) and I add about a teaspoon of borax powder to each of the detergent dispenser cups. The borax helps the dish soap cut through grease, and it makes my white cafe-style dishes shine like new.

That huge box of borax costs $2.99 at Target, and I can use it for cleaning nearly everything, so it's a time and $$$ saver.

Featured Feedback: RE: Healthy Meals and Dieting Tips

Jerri, I am a firm believer in teaching my family good eating habits and my trick is to plan my meals for the week. Then from that I make my shopping list. I make sure we have a protein, a complex carb, a vegetable, a salad and a glass of milk for each person. So, for example, one pork chop (baked not fried), 1/2 c brown rice pilaf, 1 c. steamed broccoli and a green salad with low fat dressing. The only thing about eating healthy is that is does take time because you MUST be organized. But it will be worth it in the end! As for snacks, just don't buy the potato chips and chocolate bars...make popcorn, eat pretzels or peanuts, and of course all of that needs to be in moderation as well! And if you want to splurge on the 'junk' then do it only 1 day a week! We make it on a family movie night! And if fast food is a problem with you guys...there are places now that offer really good low fat alternatives like the salads or the wraps instead of the burgers and fries. You just have to make the right choices. It is hard at first but it will get easier, I promise! If I could do it so can you!

Removing Nail Polish from a Dolls Face

My mother has a doll that is at least 50 years old, when I was a little girl I got into my mom's nail polish and decided to paint the doll's eyes and some of her face. What I would like to know is this... Would it be ok to use polish remover on this doll or would it destroy it, and if this would do damage to the doll then is there something out there that I can use to remove it? Wendy from Missouri

Minimizing Diseases in Vegetable Gardens

"Plants sometimes get sick. Vegetable plants usually are capable of fending off disease-causing bacteria, viruses, and fungi. But if conditions favor the disease and your plants are weak, the disease sometimes gains the upper hand, often leading to early death of the plants."

How to Save on Credit Card Fees
By Rocky Ramsey

Last year my credit card company sent me a letter telling me that if my credit card payment was even 1 day late, they would charge me a late fee of $29. This year they sent me a letter telling me that if my credit card was even 1 day late, they would raise my rate from my current low rate to 24.99%. Next year I expect them to send me a note indicating they're going to send Knuckles, their credit card enforcer, over to break my kneecaps if my payment is late. One kneecap if it's more than a day but less than a week. Two kneecaps if it's more than a week.
