What Are These Bugs?

These little brown flying beetles have been climbing my screens and entering my apartment. Upon entering they slowly die within a day or two. Can you tell me what they may be? Thank you.

The are definitely NOT roaches! Having lived both in the North and South I would recommend that you listen to all of the other feedback about them being June bugs (a relative of the Japanese Beetle), and not the people who have said they are flying roaches. Just for your information ALL roaches fly, be they the German or regular old "Palmetto bug" (who got it's name because that's where they mainly live and breed).

The June bugs that I have seen in SD are much larger than these.

Those are definitely Japanese Beetles. June bugs are MUCH larger. Japanese Beetles are the final version of grubs. Grubs are the larva stage. Grubs eat everything below the top of your lawn, and then the beetles eat everything above it! They are usually brown, but sometimes a greenish shade too. Check out grubs and Japanese beetles on the internet and you will see that is what you have.

If there is a green spot at the top of their backs, it looks like a Japanese Beetle. We're in Northern Illinois and have been having problems with them this year. Yech! Also doesn't look like any roaches I've ever seen. Lived in Texas, have seen several kinds. Double Yech! carol ô¿ô

They are June Bugs/May Beetles. They start off as grubs in the ground. The grubs can ruin your lawn.

In the south we call these June Bugs. They are basically a beetle that feeds on houseplants, grass, crops, and roots. They are also attracted by light. Other than the damage done to plants, these beetles are harmless.
