Reusing Plastic Baby Food Containers

Recycled baby food containers for organizing. These baby food containers can be used to organize just about anything, but I used them to organize my nails, screws, hooks, etc. They can also be easily stacked.

Gerber baby food containers are pictured.

Contests:

These contests are weekly. We pick 2 tip winners and 1 photo winner at the end of each week. Each winner will win $25!

Today's Tips:

Use Your Trampoline as a Clothes Drying Rack

I do not have a clothes line where I live but like to dry my clothes outside. I came up with a neat solution. Thinking about those sweater drying racks that you can put in the bathtub to dry items, I realized I already had a larger, and more efficient one available - my trampoline! It is made of mesh so it dries both sides at once, and it is dark colored so it absorbs heat from the sun. I think my clothes dry faster than if they were hanging up. If you have a trampoline, try it! You'll like it!

Use Photo Albums to Organize Papers

I use photo albums for most papers. I have all different sizes; one for bills, school, work, recipes, pages from magazines, and important documents like birth certificates. I put them all on a rack in home office. The albums keep things so much neater, and they save space.

Decoration for an Outside Table

A frugal way to decorate an outdoor table is to put a few pieces of colored tissue paper on the tabletop, and then cover with a sheer cloth (a sheer curtain will do). It's amazing how elegant it looks and it will mask dingy outdoor tables very well, too!

Give a Mending Kit With Donated Clothing

We all have families in our communities who have undergone a fire, a flood or other serious incident that has left someone with little or nothing. During the Katrina aftermath, the school I worked at in Texas had quite a few refugee families move in. There were clothing drives, food drives, etc. to help them out.

People often donate used clothing for these kind of events, but sometimes that clothing isn't exactly perfect. This happened to my family when I was a teen. Some of the clothing needed buttons or simple mending, but we didn't even have a needle and thread.

For our Katrina refugees, I made up a simple sewing kit for each family. It included a small assortment of buttons, needles, thread, some straight pins and scissors. It doesn't sound like much, but it's really appreciated and a fairly inexpensive way to help.

Throw Patio Furniture in Pool for Quick Cleaning

A quick way to clean plastic patio furniture is to toss it into the pool for a few hours. This especially works good if the furniture is white. If you don't have a pool, mix up some chlorine a little stronger than a pool and spray it down generously. Let sit a few hours and then rinse off.

Glasses Are Cloudy From Dishwasher

I have a fairly new dishwasher, and I am having a lot of trouble with glasses being streaky and "foggy". I've tried cheap soap and expensive soap, and nothing seems to work. I've also tried "short" washes and "heavy washes" and nothing seems to work. I've resorted to washing them by hand which seems like I'm defeating the purpose of having a dishwasher.

Natural Remedies for Tinnitus

Does anybody have any natural remedies or help for tinnitus (constant ear ringing)? It's driving my poor husband nuts. He is consulting with a good ear/nose/throat doctor, but the doctor has told him that there just isn't any help available, no medications, no surgery, nothing. There may be something in the way of a cure or help in about 5-7 years, but nothing now. We've looked on the Internet too, but can't find any help. Thanks.

Sleeping Better Without Medications

I am 73 years old and have had problems with sleep most of my life. My doctor has put me on sleeping pills as he says my health depends on getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night. I have tried every remedy given for sleep prep and also tried many herbs but none of this has ever helped me.

I do not have problems on my mind as my life is pretty good and I have a wonderful church and close family. So worry is not the problem. I just cannot sleep. Sometimes I may only sleep 1 or 2 hours a night. Medication has helped but I only sleep about 4 hours and then cannot go back to sleep. Has anyone ever tried the meditation tapes? Or the "hypnotic" tapes? Are there any religious sleep tapes? I am ready to try anything to get away from pills.

Keeping a Clothes Line from Sagging

I put my dryer on "Summer Vacation" and hung a 100 foot wash line (on pulleys) from my 1st floor porch to a nearby oak tree which leaves me (and the clothes) 12 feet off the ground. My problem is that every time I hang wash out, the line slumps to the ground after only a few items (even when I only hang my children's small clothing). Does anyone have a suggestion for me to keep my clothes up in the air?

Taking Care of a Puppy With Parvo at Home

My son's 7 month old pup started puking up foamy liquid and it had a little grass in it yesterday. He had not wanted anything to eat or drink at all yesterday, then last night he got up and started playing with our older dog. I made him some Chicken Top Ramen noodles. At first all he wanted was the broth, then when we added a little dog food to it he ate almost all of it.

We thought he was getting better, but now he doesn't want anything and you can tell he is not feeling well. A few years ago my son's girlfriend had a pup that was really sick. When we took her in to the vet they said she had Parvo and didn't think she was going to make it. But they gave us a couple bags of water for IVs they told us to just make sure we gave her an IV every couple of hours plus they gave us some kind of pills to give her.

Does anybody know where I can buy the IV bags? What kind of medications is it that they give them? Is it an antibiotic? Please help, my husband is refusing to put out anymore money on dogs, because my son had told us he had done his shots months ago. Now we find out that he only gave one shot, not the two follow-up ones.
