RE: Ink In Dryer
While trying every solvent based suggestion on this and other sites, and having very little luck, it occured to me that the issue was a stained enamel painted metal surface. What was needed was to renew the paint. I used automotive rubbing compound and a brillo pad to quickly take the stain out of the very top layer of the paint. I suppose that I could have used a rag and taken a little longer if I was interested in a mirror surface on the inside of the dryer.
My dryer looks new, with absolutly no traces of the ink. In addition I did not have to worry about fumes, and any residual rubbing compound wipes off with a damp rag. The whole job took 20 minutes.

RE: Ink In Dryer
I have tried the non-acetone nail polish remover, it removed the actual ink marks, but left a blue color all over the inside of the dryer. Tried the goo-gone, brillo pads, and rubbing alcohol. They did nothing. The Bar Keeper's friend is working great. Taking a little elbow grease, needing to continuously take breaks, needing to go get more scratch pads, ugh.

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and nail polish remover worked perfect! After getting all the ink off the dryer, I washed it with dish soap and water to be on the safe side. It looks brand new..

RE: Ink In Dryer
I have a problem with leaving pens in my sweatshirts after I get off work. usually I catch them before they get washed. not this time. I live at my boyfriends dads house and had black ink all over his dryer. I am trying the bleached towel thing and it seems to be working so far. I have nail polish remover and a magic eraser on the way...hope it works. I only have an hour until he gets home!

RE: Ink In Dryer
My dryer was a mess and after trying all the above except the non-acetone remover I went for the oven cleaner. Wow, spray that in the dryer and let it sit for maybe an hour and your dryer will look like brand new.

I personally used Windex WD40 Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) Mr. clean Magic Eraser w/ water Magic eraser w/ nail polish remover Non-acetone nail polish remover Weimans glass cook top cleaner
out of all of them, the best result I had was using a magic eraser + the nail polish remover, and oddly, the cook top cleaner. the cook top cleaner removed the older ink from previous incidents (which we cleaned with the petroleum based spot shot) but it left most of the newer ink relatively intact.
The newer ink was best cleaned with the magic eraser and nail polish. you MUST make sure that it's NON-Acetone. If it's the Acetone stuff, you'll probably just gas yourself in your dryer, and the ink will STILL be there. I don't know if it had an effect, but I used the kind with the Febreze in it, it certainly made my dryer smell pretty once I was done though, which to me is half the battle. Also mind you, that stuff is also flammable,
Windex did nothing. The WD40 just made the drum nice and shiny, I really don't know what I was expecting with that one. Must have been the fumes.
The alcohol removed the biggest splotches, but really left the pressed in ink. The kind that heats up and kills clothing like a fat kid kills cookies.
When in doubt, use the glass cook top cleaner with paper towels. it takes a bit of muscle to really get the grime off, but, I'm a young man, and I figured I could handle it. After a lot of scrubbing, for the most part, it worked pretty well. just make sure to clean all the residue off before you start up the dryer again, or you'll probably set the thing on fire.

RE: Ink In Dryer
My son left a red sharpie in his clothes and I wash and dried them. My dryer looked like a blood bath! Scared me at first. Then I found the culprit. I used the Mr. Clean magic sponge with the fingernail polish remover and was absolutely thrilled when it came right off. There was a tiny pink tinge so I used the towels soaked in watered down chlorox and my dryer looks brand new. Thank you so much!

RE: Ink In Dryer Gas Detector Activated
I used the magic eraser and nail polish. I only used too capfuls and realized it was too strong to breath. So I stopped woking on it, closed the pollish but left sponge sit there. Next thing I know the Gas Detector is going off. I though it was a chemcial reaction between gas, nail polish and mabye chemcials in the sponge. I panicked (seeing the word GAS Flashing in Red). I got the kids out of thoe house andd called the fire company. Next thing, several firetrucks with lights flashing are in front my house. The chemical mixture was enough to set the alarm off. Or maybe it was just the nail polish alone. The didn't make that clear to me. They blew a fan through the house and retested and all is well, just embarrassed!

Can you use nail polish remover in a gas dryer? I used it on the door of the dryer and it worked but I was afraid to use too much because it is flammable and I did not know if it would cause any problems I have a lot of blue pen ink on the drum of my dryer.

What is it with men? haha. My fiance left a black marker in his pocket and I missed it. I opened the dryer and it was covered in marker tracks. I found this site and tried the rubbing alcohol. It seems to be a lot of work, but is working!

RE: Ink In Dryer
Thank you for the suggestions. I first used the towel suggestion and it did not really do much. I then applied the non-acetone nail polish remover and it took off some of the ink, but not all. Then, I decided to add the non-acetone nail polish remover on the magic eraser and that did the trick. At the end, there were some very light marks left so I decided to wet 4 kitchen towels with chlorine water and throw them in the dryer on hot for about 20 minutes and that cleaned it off completely. So for me, it was the combination of the eraser, non-acetone polish remover and the chlorine-water towels.

The non-acetone nail polish remover worked great. Good advise but user beware the fumes are almost unbearable. I recommend a niosh respirator mask (about $5) and can be purchased at the Home Depot.

Husband, work clothes, black pen -- need I say more? Funny how only his WHITE T-shirts were affected as far as clothing, however, the inside of my dryer was probably the same as everyone elses... Thank heaven for your site! Non-acetone remover took it all right off the dryer drum! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

We tried magic eraser, rubbing alcohol, goof off,and nail polish remover. All of these products removed some of the ink, but we had a disaster as the pen must have exploded! I went to the garage and got some nu-finish car polish/wax and a pad of steel wool and went to work. I let the wife try an area and then step back and watch what happened when I used my experiment on the same blue hued area. It worked very well and after I was done cleaning, I wiped away any wax residue with a cloth and rubbing alcohol. Try all suggestions posted here and then try mine. Seeing is believing.

I found this website and I tried the nail polish remover and it worked like a charm. I first tried the magic eraser, and it didnt work. Needless to say I was very upset! My husband had left a pen in his work clothes and didnt tell me! The nail polish was the best idea! Just make sure if you have acrylic nails you wear gloves or else your going to be heading to the nail salon right after! I almost made that mistake! This website helped me out a great deal! Thank you for all the great suggestions!

Try "barkeepers friend". It's like comet, but not as abrasive. I have had several ink disasters in my dryer and Barkeepers Friend has gotten almost all of them off. The stuff is great and cleans many things. It works especially well if the stains are fresh and light, but it even worked on clumps of ink. Just put a small amount on a sponge and rub lightly until the stain diminishes or disappears. Then rinse with water and dry. It should make the dryer drum ALMOST as good as new!

RE: Ink In Dryer and cloths
I loved this site. My son called me at work and told me he did laundry and there was a pen in the dryer and a whole load of his school clothes were in there and had been dried. As soon as I got home at I:00 am I looked in my dryer and was very upset about all the ink as my dryer is only a few months old and has a white drum.
I could of cried! I immediately went to the computer in put in ink in dryer and found this site. It gave me hope and I was able to sleep knowing there were a lot of suggesting for getting it out. First thing in the morning I got out the nail polish remover it was working but smelled horrible. I got dressed and went to local hardware store and bought oops and a product called Tech for the clothes.
I tried the oops but went back to the polish remover even though it smelled bad because it worked like a charm. It even took out the blue dye that stained the inside of the dryer from new blue jeans. I wiped it out with a rag.The inside of my dryer looks new again
The dried ink on the clothes was another story. I tried many products and was finally able to get all the ink out even though the clothes had been dried. I used in this order, hairspray, pinesol, and the tech stuff I bought. Soaked the in oxy clean all night, still ink, shout, rubbing alcohol. I don't know which one would of worked best but I finally got all the ink out it was a job put there is no trace of ink on any of this school clothes. Thank you again. you save me a lot of headaches and money to replace a whole load of school clothes.

Advice from all of you has been great. Awoke to a dryer drum stained with blue ink. Used the Magic Eraser and Non-Acetone Nail Polish remover and it worked great. Wiped the drum with damp cloth afterwards and am now air-drying the dryer before using it. It looks great. Thanks all.

thank you so much, I just got a new washer/dryer in January, tonight my son did his laundry and of course left a pen in his jeans and exploded in the dryer. The perfume is working, I am assuming I need to wipe out cleanly after it is white again to remove any alcohol residual ?

RE: Ink In Dryer
I accidentally dried an ink pen. Ink all over the dryer. I was about sick. I tried Dawn's Power Dissolver. Spray it on and leave for 15 min and then wash out. Little rubbing. It may take more than one time. I still had a couple little stains left, but 95% of it came off. That stuff worked great! Get it at Wal Mart for just over $2.00.

I almost fainted when I opened my dryer to find INK all over! I took the advice of using non-acetone and little by little I am taking it off as we speak. I found that using paper towels or cotton pads work better than a rag. I am just having to use MANY towels but I don't care. It's leaving it WHITE again. Thank you all for the advice.

RE: Ink In Dryer
Trust me this works and it is the same as dry cleaning. Dry cleaning use to use a product called tricloralethane. It was also the same stuff machinists used to completely degrease internal engine parts,...that was good stuff but they dont make it except in some old metal polishes you might be able to find. What I found that works on any stain, grass, tar, ink, you name it is "non-chlorinated brake cleaner". You can get it at any auto parts store. Put paper towel behind the stain and spray it first to loosen the stain, and then power it threw to the paper towel. It takes about 30 seconds. Works great on small tough carpet stains too. But make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area or you throw a fan in the window!

I had that happen to a load of maternity clothes! We took them to a dry cleaner, told them what made the stains, and they got most of the ink out! Dry cleaning is expensive - but not compared to buying a new maternity wardrobe.

To remove ink use rubbing alcohol. If in the dryer allow to air dry before using. For typewriter keys use alcohol on an old toothbrush.
