Garden: Purple Coneflower (Echinacea)

This was my first try at gardening and so many have said I have a green thumb. The new house we moved to had nothing growing, but grass so I decided to brighten it up with flowers.

We are blessed here in Arkansas. The purple Coneflower is among our beautiful wild flowers that grow along our roadsides here. (07/26/2010)

One of the prettiest flowers, and very hardy. It came up very nicely and was glorious! This shot was perfect with the sun shining down.

I captured this photo while hiking Charlie's Bunion in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The trail was 8.2 miles long to the summit and back. Awesome trail full of gorgeous springtime flowers.

This bee was on one of my cone flowers. I was afraid he had overdosed on pollen, he was breathing really heavy. I went into the house and when I came back out to check on him, he was gone. I am sure he was the hero of the day in his nest!

And he/she probably dusted some stamens on another flower--the little fertilizer. She/he looks very healthy. They really are heroes. We are having a problem with mites on the bees here in Hawaii. (09/11/2009)

Woo! that's an eye=-popping photo. Good for you for zooming in tight to fill the frame, much more flower in the picture. (12/22/2008)
