Shabby Chic Bedroom Decorating
While decorating my girls room, I came up with a thrifty tip for a headboard and it fits right in with my shabby chic theme! I spent a total of $14.00 for the fence which was already pre-made at the local lumber store.

Keep Medical Information Handy
I keep my insurance related cards in an envelope in my purse along with an index card with all vital info on me: name, address, phone number, doctor's name and number, family emergency numbers, list of my medical problems, and list of current medications taken daily and prescriptions (taken as needed), and hospital preference. This has come in handy in emergencies and when at a new doctors office when I have had to fill out initial information sheet.

Tips and advice for shaving your legs. Post your ideas.
Your razor will cut better if you shave your legs first thing in the morning instead of waiting until later in the day. As the day goes and you are on your feet, your legs can swell, and if this happens, the razor won't cut the hair as short.

Longer Lasting Candles
Since we all love those pretty, fragrant candles and hate to see them burn down, try putting them in the freezer for at least three hours before burning them. See how much longer they will last and you'll have more hours of enjoyment

Clean Up After Water Balloon Fights
Water balloon fights are always a big hit at summer kids parties, but the burst balloons all over the ground are a hazard to wildlife and curious toddlers. Encourage kids to clean up by offering a prize for the one who picks up the most bits of rubber balloon.

I always cook more chicken than I need at that meal for later in the week. It's just as easy to cook more, and serve it in a chicken salad, tacos, or on a bun or roll later in the week for a good, quick meal.

Discouraging Tent Caterpillars
We live in southern Ontario, Canada, and tent caterpillars are a big problem. We always had them on our few fruit trees until I read somewhere of a cheap way to discourage them. Just wrap aluminum foil around the tree trunk before it starts to branch out and secure with string. Make sure you do it as soon as possible in the Spring. I was skeptical but for two years now, we have been free of the pesky things.

Donate Recycled Craft Supplies for Schools
Teachers spend so much of their own money on materials for the classes. They are always happy to receive old magazines and used craft items. Color books have so many uses for children's crafts, especially seasonal type of pictures. Unused bottles of glue, beads, wall paper end pieces. Even string. There isn't much they can't use. Of course leave out glass and other dangerous stuff.

Summer activities that don't cost a lot of money. Post your ideas.
Inexpensive Summer Activities for Kids
I remember when I was five years old, and all the others siblings were in school, I got pretty bored sometimes. That's when my mom or dad would teach me things. Here's a little list, it works.
1. teach them how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich by putting the peanut butter on both slices, then the jelly won't fall out.
2. Colored paper stirs up all kinds of ideas. It's never too early to learn how to make Christmas decorations like a long chain of strips of colored paper to put on the tree.
3. A bucket of water and a paint brush for outside of course. You never have to teach them what to do with it. They will always know the best idea for that.
4. Kids water paints are great. I keep an end roll of plain newspaper around for a variety of uses, and painting, coloring or drawing a town on a large piece with roads and houses and businesses. Remind them to make a park in their city. This goes well with toy cars, dolls and teddy bears.

A man went into a doctor's office and told the receptionist he had the shingles. She told the man to sit down and that a nurse would see him shortly. After a while, the nurse saw the man, did some tests and told him to wait for the doctor. The doctor finally arrived and asked the man how he could help him.
"I have the shingles," the man said.
"Where are they?" the doctor asked.
"Outside in my pickup," he replied. "Where do you want them delivered?"

I only work part time so when I am working like to buy food ahead. I would like to know how long you store cheese - such as Velveeta and the bagged shredded cheese. I use a lot of both and would like to buy ahead to have it available when I'm not working. I have a refrigerator to be used just for that. What temperature should they be stored at and how long will they keep? I get SSA and when between jobs I have to buy for a month ahead. I also use this fridge for storing potatoes and onions, any information on how long those can be stored for would be helpful as well.
Thank you very much,
Lee Ann Cline

Linky & Dinky's Web Earn Program
I am wondering if anyone has signed up to be a Web Earner from the Linky & Dinky web site. I enjoy their newsletter but am curious and skeptical about paying $20 to make money using the web. I know most of these type of advertisements are a big rip off. Just wondering if any of your readers have participated in this and what input they have.
Thanks,

My husband and I are having trouble with our Live Oaks in our front yard. The couple that lived here before us had them planted when they moved in but obviously did not take care in raising them. They are straggly and just now growing properly. My neighbor came over and trimmed some of the dead branches and some of it is slowly coming back. I just know they should be much bigger and fuller then they are now. Any suggestions?

Hi frugal family!
I have a small problem in the garden. I have a Hibiscus plant in the front yard. We have lived in our new home abt 18 months. Last year the Hibiscus bloomed tons but this year it's droppping its buds before they can open up. I saw that you can buy something in the store to discourage the bud drop but I would rather do it a cheaper way. Got any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim in FL

Does anyone know some good offers for buying grocery coupon books. A lady on another site had posted one but I lost the post somehow. I have 6 kids and she was talking about a book of coupons that saved her over half off her grocery bill.

Bug Off! Organically - Organic Pest Control
By Ellen Brown
Most gardeners encounter pest problems at some point during the growing season. Organic gardeners "control" (within tolerable levels) these insect pests without the use of synthetic chemicals. Successful insect pest control, however, begins long before you spot the first leaf holes and slime trails. It starts with a good garden environment.
