Her son moved in and never fed the cats. By the time he moved out and I realized the cat was starving, she was also pregnant. It took me a couple of weeks to coax her with food (she had also been abused) to the point that I could get hold of her to put her in my bathroom, where she gave birth that very night. I have 6 adorable kittens, but since it is so late in the season, I am concerned about finding homes for them. Calling animal control (the police in my town) is of no use here. They knew she had multiple animals--none of which had shots or were fixed, and never did anything about it. Neither is turning them over to the shelter, they'll put them all down (I used to volunteer there and am familiar with their practices). After raising them, I can't bear that. And, we're one of the few ststes that has no laws governing animal abuse. I'm advertising in the paper and pray I can find good homes for them. I want to get mom fixed, but it'll cost me $100 (no help around here) and I simply cannot afford to spend much more when they're not my pets. Until then, I won't allow momma out in fear that she'll get pregnant again. In the past, each time this neighbor's cats had babies, she wanted me to take them because, "they look just like your male cat," and "you need to take responsibility." My cat is fixed and has been since the day I got him, too bad she didn't take the same responsibility with hers. Now I'm paying for her ignorance. I read your post earlier and have felt so sad about this situation. Your neigbor was an irresponsible pet owner and it was cruel to abandon the cat and kittens. Please check to see where the animal shelter is in your area and take the cats there so they can find good homes. They need your help. You could try mother's replacement milk, but they will definitely need to be bottle fed. You may need to take them to a shelter -- no kill if possible. They have volunteers that will foster the kittens. You can also look on line. Try craig's list or google kitten foster care and put in your location. I would also speak with your neighbor about fixing her cat. If she doesn't agree to fix her, I would call your local animal control or ASPCA to notify them of the problem. She can have multiple births yearly. That's a lot of hungry kittens. Good luck to all! They do not put all animals to sleep! Kittens and puppies are very adoptable. Everyone loves them. In our area, they do not put animals to sleep that are still adoptable. If you still can't do this, put an ad in the paper. Remember, everyone loves little furry kittens! They are much more adoptable than older cats. Report Spam or Abuse
