Sick Day Care Packages

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 107 Posts

While everyone hopes to avoid the dreaded winter cold, or even worse the seasonal flu, things don't always go as we wish. That's reason enough to prepare a sick day care package before you get sick. Listed below are examples of items that could be packaged in a sick day box or basket and stored in a cabinet or on a pantry or closet shelf. Having this available will eliminate the need to venture out to the store at a time when you are feeling awful.

A sick day care package could include:

  • Cold medicine appropriate for whatever age groups reside in your house
  • A supply of tissues
  • A notepad for recording medication dosages and times and possibly a timer to use as a reminder of when medicines are due.
  • Age appropriate quiet time activities such as coloring book and crayons, books, puzzle books, etc.
  • A special movie or soothing music selections
  • A special stuffed toy
  • Certain foods such as a can of chicken soup, potato soup, crackers, clear sodas or ginger drinks that are generally associated with sick days should also be included in the care package.

Something I have always done with my children and grandchildren, is to have a handy small bucket for them to keep by their side when they are sick. I get them at yard sales or thrift stores. They are an easy item to find. This has saved me so many messes.

Everyone knows you can't always make it to the bathroom or outdoors to vomit and with this bucket or pail at their side they can rest and not worry about making a mess. I label them and sterilize them after they are used. The trick or treat ones you can find for 10 cents after Halloween are a good size as are the free ones that come with Happy meals.

This is a nice idea but you forgot a few things...when I am sick I want my favorite nite gown, robe and slippers plus my vics and vaporizer...and in the bathroom an extra bathmat to keep my feet warm, a large bath sheet with my towel set and aroma therapy usually lavender to help me sleep.

When my daughters were little and now their children also like these things when they were sick. I use to always have a bed tray as well and I find my grandchildren stay more content using it too.
