In other news, grocery prices are on the rise due to fuel prices. I haven't crunched the numbers but the totals at the check out yesterday were clearly higher than normal. Milk and egg prices were noticeably higher. If you have any food tips or gas saving tips, be sure to send them in.
A quick note about our server. We realize it can be slow at times and we are working on getting it upgraded. We will be upgrading it next week to see if we can speed things up a bit.

Remove Zest from Oranges and Lemons Before Eating
Before you eat an orange, wash it well under running water. Then using a really good zester start grating the orange peel being careful not to peel any of the pith. Place in a freezer bag and use accordingly. You can do the same thing with fresh lemons. I use the orange peel in orange coffee cake and I use the lemon peel in lemon poppy seed muffins.

Place Vinegar in Candle Holders for Odor
The cheapest way to remove odors from a room is to place cups of white vinegar in the room. It works 24/7 and all you have to do is refill when it evaporates. I use old candle jars that have been used up so that it does not interfere with the decor of each room.

Make Your Own Laundry Soap With Ajax
I use Ajax combined with Dawn or Joy to wash my clothes. It's bunches cheaper than Tide. Mix it 7 to 1 (Ajax to Dawn or Joy) in your empty laundry detergent bottle. Pour in 7 cups of water, then add 1 cup of dish detergent. I use the bottle cap to measure just like the Tide.
I also fill my Downey ball about half full of white vinegar and toss that in. It removes soap build up and softens too.
For whites I use 1/2 cup of All Fabric Bleach from the Dollar Store. A 76 oz box was $2.00. Really thrifty and it doesn't bother my DH's sensitive skin.

Prevent Buildup of Scale in Humidifiers
Put vinyl magnets in the well of humidifiers and it will prevent buildup of scale. Use Refrigerator pictures, Magnetic Calendars/business cards etc. I have used this in both Furnace and Room units.

Featured Feedback: Problem with Squeaky Doors
Remove one hinge pin at a time. Use a Q-tip and dip it into Vaseline. Coat the pin real good. Reinstall the pin. And do the same to the rest of them.
I did this two years ago, and no squeaks yet.

Keep Sand out of Your Camera
Put your camera in a ziplock freezer bag to prevent sand from getting into the works or scratching your lense. This can be a good idea even if you have a camera bag and lens cap, sand has a way of getting everywhere.

Does anyone know how to make your own V8. I have a bunch of canned tomato juice and I want to make it into a V8 style beverage for my dad. Doesn't have to be quite as salty, though. CraftyCathy

Soup Recipes and Freezing Information
I am a college student and avid soup eater. I live in an apartment so I have a kitchen available to me and I want to make a bunch of soup and freeze it. I usually buy Campbell's Chunky soup but would like to save some money. Does anyone have any good soup recipes and does anyone have any freezing tips for soup?

How To Reduce Bank Fees
Nobody likes to pay banking fees, but if you aren't active in trying to reduce them, you are probably paying more in fees than you need to be. One of the most important actions to take in order to reduce the banking fees is to figure out exactly how you use your bank. Consider what your average balance will be and how low the balance may dip. Also consider the type of transactions you make and what types of services you need. Once you have a better understanding of how you utilize the bank, you are in the position to get the most out of it while avoiding fees for services you don't need or use.

Make Your Own Casserole Sauce Mix
Casseroles and cream soups go together. They are great on homegrown vegetables fresh from the garden, jar or freezer. But the more we read the labels, and if you're into watching sodium in your diet and economics, there has to be an alternative. There is. You can make your own healthy casserole or cream soup mix. I keep a container of the mix handy for white sauces, gravies and soups.
