Thanks,

One of my daughters put silly putty on a rug in the house and proceeded to cover up the crime by putting a stuffed animal on top of it. By the time I found it, I figured all hope was lost. However, I found this site and it saved the carpet. Thanks

Thanks so much! My daughter got it all over her stuffed animals, pillow, bedding. Alcohol took it out of everything but the orange putty did leave a stain on the bedding (of course I had tried to wash it first that might be why) but alcohol took it right out of her new stuffed animals and large enchanted doll's hair in literally minutes, amazingly enough. Bless whoever figured that out! NO MORE PUTTY till she's 16! (Husband says 36):)

Wow! rubbing alcohol really does work. My girls had a huge birthday party and someone sat one purple silly putty and got it on a friends pullover jacket and my daughters mink blanket. I am so thankful for the internet so I could look up how to get it out. I almost cried when the girls told me what happened now I'm smiling with ease! thanks so much

Rubbing alcohol does work. My son decided at 12:00am to stick putty on my carpet. I tried ice and pulling. Then I googled you guys. Thanks so much for the advice. It came up in no time at all.

My son got orange silly putty on our white/blue berber rug. After the alcohol treatment, the Goo Gone and Dawn mixture removed everything. I am speechless. Thanks for the wonderful tips! From one a grateful mom!

I read all of the feedback on the page found that the alcohol worked excellent no time to try anything else out. I used the 91% ispropyl alcohol on HOT PINK SILLY PUTTY. After pulling out what I could out of carpet. Poured directly on putty rubbed with wet rag, poured a little more on when majority of putty was up and rubbed out with dry rag. No stain and no more putty on my blue carpet. Thanks for the tips

I had bright pink putty on my light tan plush carpet...poured the alcohol right on and let it sit for a minute....old rag got it right up with little effort. I wish I had found this sight before I picked at it for an hour!!

The hand sanitizer worked for getting it off of rubber (swim goggles- don't ask). It disolved the putty.

I got a huge clump of Silly Putty on my polyester colored blanket, and then my cat proceeded to sit on it. I have no idea how long it was on there, but after picking out the big clumps, rubbing alcohol worked fabulously. However, it did leave a big orange smear, so I used Spot Shot, and the orange is almost out. I hope it will fully come out in the wash.

WOW. Thank goodness for the internet! I tried spot-shot first, which normally gets just about anything out. No luck.

THEN, I found this site, and read through all the great advice. I ended up using the rubbing alcohol with some WD-40, and some serious scrubbing (with rags, not paper towels). I got most of the red silly putty out of my beige carpet! Now my son is out of the dog-house, and the remaining silly putty is in the trash! Thanks for all your great tips! Cathy

OMG! Somehow, green silly putty got all over my bed. It was especially stuck in the mane of my precious Zebra toy I got when I was a baby. The mane is yarn. I was so, so, so upset. I ran to the computer and found this. I tried rubbing alcohol, Purell, soap, everything. It was still leaving a stain. I went to et this soap that has gotten rid of every stain in the past, and rubbed it on. It worked like a dream. This soap is a MIRACLE! I am so happy! It is called FELS NAPTHA! TRY IT! I swear, It works every single time! Thanks so much to everyone! I hope my suggestion comes in handy!

My son as a microfiber throw on his bed and throw pillow. Found silly putty (green) smashed into both and covered with pillow. Hard to say how long it was like that. Used rubbing alcohol and it came out! Thanks!

My son left yellow flow all over my carpet. The white vinegar was amazing. I soaked the carpet, let it work for about 5 minutes and used a white washcloth and towel to "sop" it up. You can't even tell it was there!

Thanks to a neighborhood website, I was told mayo would work. I rubbed it into the leftover Silly Putty in a circular motion, then wiped it up with paper towels. There was a faint pink shadow (the Silly Putty was HOT Pink) which my Little Green Machine took out. Hooray!! Now the garbage man can have the Silly Putty.

Rubbing alcohol worked like a charm! I received a very soft throw as a Christmas gift and a couple weeks later I found my son's silly puddy stuck to it. The cat has been sleeping on it and I thought I was going to have to give it to her for good. Then I found this thread and my blanket was saved! I used rubbing alcohol and an old washcloth and rubbed the silly puddy right out! I can't believe how fast and gone it was. It only took 15 minutes and now my blanket is just as soft as before. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ispropyl worked great to remove putty from the pocket of a fleece hoodie, but my question is- where did it go? I've had a chemistry class or two and I didn't think matter was supposed to just GO AWAY like the Silly Putty did. Great tip, but wierd.

I tried the icecube first, it didn't do much. I then tried the alcohol, is broke it down well, but seem to make is smear more into the carpet. I then used Goo Gone and it worked even better than the alcohol. The alcohol left a bright pink stain in my light grey berber - the Goo Gone helped with the stain but even after using my Little Green Clean Machine there is still a slight pink stain in the carpet.
Needless to say that any remaining bright pink silly putty has been thrown out never to enter my house again! Bad idea on Santa's part.

My daughter ground purple silly putty in my tan carpet. I picked most of it off and used an ice cube to make the smaller pieces hard. Then I followed up with the alcohol. Thank god it worked. All silly putty has been thrown away!

HUGE Thank-you for the alcohol tip. This worked like magic on a fuzzy blanket that had that evil goo pressed right into the weave. I used 100% isopropyl and a small cloth and rubbed with moderate force. In 10 minutes the treasured blanket was back to its old self.
Ban Silly Putty forever! Thanks Again, Robert M

I GOT IT OUT! The COMBO of WD-40 and alcohol did the trick. I had to rub vigorously with a Damp washcloth though. The paper towel was falling apart. My son had flattened his into the carpet with the sliding closet door.
I think that the person who invented it should be court ordered to have a house full of 3 year olds armed with the gunk over for a play date ;)

Thank you

Here's my 2 cents -

CHECK LIST:

WAX PAPER
FROZEN CHUNK OF FOOD FROM FREEZER
RUBBING ALCOHOL
PAPER TOWELS
RULE CHANGE: NO MORE PUTTY, EVER!

PROCEDURE:

scrape up enough putty to make a ball

smoosh it onto the frozen chunk to harden

grab it with the wax paper

blot the putty over the stain to stick and lift the smear as you do to pick up playdoh crumbs

Alcohol does dissolve the stuff, but you end up smearing more into the fabric and have to rub really hard with the paper towels, pilling the fabric. Last step.

NEVER BRING IT IN THE HOUSE AGAIN!

Goo Gone took the pink kind out like a charm, however, I had to work with the original silly puddy, but after several rubs and working with it, it did eventually come out and I just washed the spot with soap and water.
Be careful not to pure the Goo Gone directly onto the carpet b/c the fibers could get loose and come out.
I have a SHAG rug and was very gentle and applied the Goo Gone onto a white cloth and then just worked it in and kept rubbing until it looked like it was gone.

We removed silly putty from light berber carper with a product called De-Solv-it. The instructions said not to spray directly on the carpet, but it worked much faster when done, blotted and rubbed with a clean cloth, washed with water and blotted with paper towels to dry.

Our cleaning person put peanut butter on the silly putty in our carpet. She let it sit for 30 minutes and then rubbed it out. It all came out and you can't tell it was there (our carpet is brown so I don't know if you would then have to take PB stain out of a lighter colored carpet). Apparently the oils from the PB loosen it up.

I scraped the excess silly putty off the carpet with a butter knife and then blotted & dabbed the remaining silly putty with the original piece. The silly putty in the carpet stuck back to the original piece & now I can't tell where it was. I didn't have to do any additional cleaning.

You may have already solved your silly putty problem, but if not, I found something that worked (I had the same exact problem). Here is a link to it: http://homeparents.about.com/cs/householdtips/ht/Silly_Putty.htm. Also, after cleaning up the WD-40 with the alchohol and rag, you might want to clean the area with soap and water. It worked pretty well for us. WD-40 seems to be another miracle product that ranks up there with duct tape. We have used it to kill bees in the past with great success!

Try placing a paper bag or piece of wax paper over the silly putty and ironing over the stain .. it should melt on to the paper! This also works well with crayons or candles that have melted onto carpets or fabrics! I imagine rubbing alcohol would break up the silly putty too but haven't tried it .. just a thought!

Good Luck!
Rebekah
