Treating Dry Sores on My Dog?

What can I do for my male dog (Papillon) who has a problem when his little private part. It keeps getting dry with little sores on it. The vet said put Vaseline on it. Should I go to the pet store and buy salve for it?

Triple antibiotic cream. I buy the generic but I think the brand name is Neosporin. My dog had sores and a couple days of this they were healed. Rub in it really good. My vet told me it was OK to use. My dogs sores were where he could not reach to lick. Don't know if it would hurt them to lick it. But if it's rubbed in really good I don't think there would be a problem.

Bag Balm works great I use this a lot on my dogs, horse and donkey. It also works good for our dry skin, capped lips etc. In summer if flies bother sores use Swat; it heals and repels flies.
