Microwave Safe Mugs
How do you tell if a coffee mug (or any other dish, for that matter) is safe to use in the microwave? I buy a lot of mugs at thrift shops and yard sales, so some of them are probably old enough that they might not be safe. I seem to remember something along the lines of filling the mug with water and microwaving on high for a certain length of time and if the handle gets hot, that means it's not safe for the microwave. But I can't remember, like how long is the length of time you're supposed to do it; can anybody help?

| Department Store Bags For Laundry Organizing
Don't throw away those department store handle bags. Store them in your linen closet and use them to carry the various loads of wash to the laundry room and then put the clean clothes back in them to carry them to the areas in the house where the items are stored. Post Feedback: Click Here |
| Use Plastic Wrap Under Foil To Avoid Metal Taste
I got this tip from the newspaper and it really works. To avoid the aluminum transfer (and unpleasant metal taste) that often occurs when lasagna or a casserole is covered with foil while it bakes, try this restaurant trick: Simply cover the dish tightly with film or plastic wrap before covering with foil. The film will not melt under the foil, yet will protect the flavor of your dish by avoiding prolonged contact with foil. This works for oven temperatures up to 450 degrees F. I do this with the things I cover and put in the fridge. No more metal taste. Post Feedback: Click Here |
| Downloading Audiobooks From The Library
I am an avid reader, but with not a lot of time to read, I have turned to recorded books on tape or CD. I always had a difficult time getting things back on time. I learned that my library now has a web site for recorded books that I can download to my computer. These are loaned to you on a 14 day basis, and they can be burned to CD if you want to do that. I now listen when I am on the computer, and take it with me on CD if I want to. Post Feedback: Click Here |

| Allergy Alerts
If you or someone in your family suffers from allergies, both Nasonex and Claritin have allergy alerts that tell you the level of pollen in your designated area and even what they are. I find this very useful in tracking down why and how I am feeling. It would be especially good if your kids have allergies and you don't. Post Feedback: Click Here |
| Recycle Old Clothes As Quilting Squares
When I no longer need an item of clothing, I cut it apart at the seams and use the pieces to make quilt squares. I only use 100% cotton, that has been washed many times and will no longer shrink. I store all the same colors in a box for each color. This cuts down on spending, and I make a one of a kind memory quilt. Post Feedback: Click Here |
| Recycled Fruit Nets For Scouring Pads
I like to recycle the red nets that fruit comes in sometimes and use them as scouring pads. They work great in scrubbing your kitchen sink out with baking soda, as a pan scrubber, and are even good at scrubbing stickers off items! Post Feedback: Click Here |

| Clothing Advice for a Formal Business Event
I've been invited to a Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards night and the dress is stated as formal. The thing is, I have no idea what to wear! My friend suggested that I just wear a black trouser suit with a nice top as that is more my style and I don't really feel comfortable wearing a dress. I looked up photo's of the previous year's award nights and I have to admit not many of the people look very formal. Mostly they are just wearing trousers and a top or a skirt and a top. I wouldn't mind wearing a skirt, but I don't want to be underdressed. In saying that I also don't want to be overdressed! Please help! Oh, and what can I do with fine, flat hair that doesn't do as it's told. It won't hold a curl or anything like that. Help! Post Feedback: Click Here |
