Cleaning a Chef's Pizzelle Iron?

I have a Chef's electric Pizzelle iron and I have a lot of grease on the outside of it. I would love to remove the grease, but I don't know what to use without scratching the metal casing. Any ideas?

Have you tried a paste of baking soda and water?

I have the same problem, it's just caked on with hardened grease. I inherited it from my grandmother. She bought it in Italy. I'd hate to get rid of it. I will try the powder paste. Hope it works.

I have a couple. Heat up iron slightly, put on some Ov gloves, you can use a warm, wet dishrag with dishwashing detergent on it. Elbow grease a must. Usually I had this over to hubby.
