Removing Skunk Smell from Couch?

My dog was sprayed by a skunk and rubbed all over the couch before I got her. Now I can't get that smell out. Can anyone help me?

Oy. I don't really know what will work, but I wanted to express my sympathy. I can only imagine . . .

The Mythbusters experimented with removing skunk odors. They found that beer and a douche did not work. Tomato juice might help (although you don't want that on your furniture). Commercial skunk smell remover worked, but a homemade mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap did the best. You might want to google and find their official site to see if they give the proportions, and try it on a hidden spot before using it on the entire couch.

Best of luck. I hope you find an effective solution quickly!

There is a commercial product called "Nature's Miracle", that you wet the pet with, then let it dry and it works like Febreeze. You could test it on the back to see if it doesn't stain. Good luck; you're living a fear of mine!

Try a product called XO. You can find it at QVC.com; under Don Asletts products; he has the largest janitorial company in the USA; they use it in hospitals and nursing homes; it is biodegradeable and won't harm your pet. I have seen this used on soured milk and it took the odor away and cleaned it. Couldn't find it locally even at janitorial supply places, so I ordered it from there! or you can go to his website and do the same.

Hope this works for you! It should! Good luck!

OMG! This happened to me, I put vinegar around the house, didnt work. I've seen over and over the baking soda, peroxide and dawn, but didnt try it. Went right to pet Express or your local pet store and bought Nature's Miracle. I really was skeptical but desperate. Wash the dog with it straight, and sprayed everything.

I didnt wash the dog good enough so she still smells. I've sprayed a few days now and it does work very well. My problem is it's in my leather couch thru the stitching ugh! It's been 2 weeks and I'm still working on it. Exhausting. Fully recommend naturals miracle skunk odor remover!

I live in Canada and I too have used Nature's Miracle. Large bottle $13.95 available at pet stores. It worked wonders on the dog, she was able to sleep on our bed the same night. I did not have to use it on furniture but it says on the bottle you can. I have also heard friends use the peroxide mixture, but I have heard some say it can irritate the dog's skin. I have no idea if it works on furniture. It might be worth a try.

I just experienced this skunk stuff last night.

Hi! My name is Andie, and I got skunked.

It was a baby-skunk. He was afraid. His mom was close to killing him. My dog and I witnessed it, and the baby ran to us...never expected that. Then, I guess the baby realised I was human & got afraid...took off. But not without a spray of Eau-De-Skunk.

I didn't realise I was skunked because we were still at a distance. When we got back into our home (3 steps away). I sat on my couch :(
I realised what horror had occured. The smell slapped the breath out of me.
And my home?! Just a swell smell!
Will be using Nature's Miracle.

I firmly believe in the peroxide baking soda dishwashing soap. I have four dogs who love to chase everything that runs from them and I have a skunk den or something by my back shed so needless to say I am giving skunk baths weekly during summer months. I stock up on the big bottles of peroxide get a big box of baking soda and dawn dishwashing soap. Up pour the baking soda into tge peroxide bottle becarful u will over dill the peroxide bottle when adding the baking soda I use between 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of baking soda then I squeeze about a second of dawn in the bottle.I close the cap shake and wash.simple easy cheap reliable and my kid has used the same formula on our furniture then used a carpet cleaner to suck up the chemicals.
