Here are my two long-haired dachshunds- Molly on the left, is 10 years old; I got her as a little pup when I lived in Phoenix. Doodad (the "Dood", my rescue guy, on the right,) is 5 years old. He came to me from Indiana last December.

Don't spend a lot of money on cat toys. They seem to love the cheap ones better. (aluminum foil in a ball, big rubberbands, cardboard boxes.)

Today's Tips
Do you make your own bread crumbs? This is frugal cooking at its best. Make fresh bread crumbs from stale bread OR from toasted bread by placing torn bread into the bowl of a food processor or using a blender.
If all else fails, put in a bowl and use your hand mixer and blend until the crumbs are fine or the desired consistency. I suggest now is the time to add favorite seasonings such as onion or garlic powder with some dried parsley. Store in a resealable bag in the freezer for up to 6 months and have handy any time you have a need. Please note, you do not have to defrost the bread crumbs if they are totally dried before freezing.

Some herbs freeze nicely and you can freeze them in their whole form. But others such as Parsley, Tarragon, and Basil don't freeze well. You may want to store the more fragile herbs by dehydrating first, then containing.
I have a dehydrator and use it for my basil and parsley. Once dried, I put these herbs in air tight jars kept handy when I am cooking. It's a super way to save money, and growing your own plants always lets you know how healthy each plant remains.
Use your fresh herbs, or your own dried herbs by adding to any meal you prepare and enjoy much tastier meals.

Store peeled or chopped garlic in olive oil to preserve it longer. This really adds a great flavor to the oil too, which can then be used in cooking or salad dressings. I have been known to freeze my store-bought garlic, but putting some in a cruet with olive oil can liven any meal. Give it a try.

1. I keep several empty containers from food items around the house for those small things that you find but don't want to make a trip to put them away until you have a bunch.
2. In my hubby's area where I put things that don't really have an official home, I use them to hold tools, screws, auto stuff, whatever I find that belongs to him. He can find what he's misplaced.
3. In the workshop, they are great, especially when see through (the new plastic mayonnaise jars from Kraft are really helpful), as you can use them for different sizes of parts, nails, screws, bolts, etc. For containers that aren't clear, use them for items that aren't in assorted sizes and mark the container in marker or cut package photo and tape on with wide clear packing tape.
4. Use to hold paint brushes (with bristles up).
5. I always need something to rinse the bathtub with, rinse the dog during a bath, etc. and keeping one in the bathroom cabinet means I don't go searching or use an item from the kitchen.
6. I use them to mix up plant food and keep with each batch of plants.
7. When buying dry foods in bulk, pour the amount needed for your typical meals to store in your cupboard. No measuring needed when preparing a meal, so less time and cleanup.
8. Put flavored drinks for the kids and freeze, then take camping or to the beach. They can use them to play in the sand, collect shells or other items when they are empty.

Preventing a Knitted Top from Stretching
I have a knitted top that stretches every time I wear it. I've tried to shrink it in hot water and also the dryer. It shrinks a little but when I wear it again it stretches. Can you give me any tips to stop it from stretching?

I recently decorated a white feather comforter with my grandchildren by letting them stamp their hand and foot prints all over it with paint. The problem now is that I used your basic water based paint, not fabric paint. What can I treat it or coat it with to protect the paint? Would "Stain Guard" work? I love the comforter, however I want to be able to use it without worrying about getting it dirty?
Thanks!

Helping a Child Eat More Healthy Food
I am a one on one with a 5 year old boy. I was told he was autistic, but he mainly he is mentally retarded with autistic tendencies. He doesn't eat much. What he does eat is not good for him; chocolate donuts, choco cereal, pop tarts with icing on top and cookies. Every once in while if he is lucky he gets some fruit but then he doesn't eat it.
I really would like to see his lunch and all the other lunches that are packed up at home to at least have 1 nutritional item that a child would eat. I feel really sorry for this child. Any advice would be appreciated.
