Repairing Holes in a Canvas Poptop Motorhome

My boyfriend has a Mazda E2000 motor home that has a poptop. The canvas on it is torn/ripped, it has 6 holes in it from what he has said. He has all the patches and needle to fix it, I was wondering what type of thread do I use and how is the best way to fix it so we can sell it? The canvas material is a waxy sort of canvas.
