The "Use Half" Rule

I have discovered through trial and error that you can cut in half the amount of shampoo, conditioner, dishwasher detergent, washing powder, fabric softener, etc. and it still does a good job. Experiment with it until you get an amount that is satisfactory to you.

Start Seedlings in Jello Cups

I reuse the little cups that jello or pudding comes in to start my seedlings. I have also used the caps off laundry detergent. Both are reuseable.

Saving Money on Coffee

My husband and I love coffee, drinking two pots daily. I have found that I can brew a pot with the regular amount of ground coffee (4 scoops) and then for the second pot add just half the amount of fresh grounds (two scoops) to the grounds used in the first pot. I have noticed no change of taste and am saving each time I brew the second pot.

Mark Names on Underwear

When my kids were little, had four within 5 years, the last three were girls. As the girls started wearing panties, I put their initial, very small, in the back right under the elastic. I used a black magic marker. This made it easy for them to tell front from back and saved me time when I was folding and sorting laundry.

RE: Recycling Sweatshirts: Making a Quilt?

I have recycled old sweats by patchworking them into curtain liners.

My power bills have reduced significantly.

Also you could use them patched together as throws over furniture when you have younger children. That is to be our next project - as soon as we have enough old sweats to use!

Featured Feedback: RE: Frugal Gifts for all Those Kids' Birthday Parties!

One of the best and cheapest gifts I gave my niece when she was young was her own ream of paper, and some new markers and crayons. I bought the cheapest printer/xerox paper at Staples, got a box for the paper from the printing department (so the paper would stay nice,) and wrapped it all up. Under $5, and 500 sheets of paper will last even the most prolific artist a while.

Chocolate Paraffin Wax Recipe

I am a licensed manicurist and have recently purchase a chocolate scented paraffin wax and when I received it, it appears to be homemade. I'm not looking for anything edible, I want to be able to make it for my Paraffin bath for my manicures and pedicures. It seems to be made from unscented paraffin but I don't know what type of chocolate or how much. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Amanda from Alabama

My husband recently got a new pair of leather dress shoes that feel fine on his feet. Only problem is that one shoe squeaks each time he takes a step, which is really irritating. He says it sounds like it is coming from the heel. Is there a way to stop the squeaking? Kelli from OH

Stains on White Kitchen Countertops

We've recently purchased our first home. Already we've put stains on our nice, white kitchen countertops (made of laminate?). I don't know much about cleaners, but have tried Fantastic with Bleach and Windex. The stains didn't even fade at all. I'm not sure what the stains are from, but since they're circular, I'm guessing they're from perhaps tea or coffee in cups. Help! Thanks much, Libby
