Feline Sprawl

Here is a picture of our big cat, Gangster. He gives new meaning to "sprawl". There is actually 3 cats in this picture. That is Stanley, orange and white with the dark collar, who is laying on his twin brother, Oliver. You can see his belly under Gangster's left leg. Cat on back

Letter to Grandma Costume

My daughter, Mackenzie didn't want to be "just like everyone else for Halloween".

So I let her pick...we went to my fabric cabinet and she said "Mom, I want to be a "letter".

I replied "which letter?".

She said "A letter to Grandma"

So I took some white fabric and drew with blue marker the blue lines horizontally and the red line down the side of the page for the margin, vertically.

I sewed the front and the back just as I would making a quilt and cut the three holes out of the fabric just as a piece of paper would have and did a zigzag stitch.

I wrote what she told me to write with black marker. Cut a hole in the top of the "page" for her face and arm holes so she can carry her trick or treat bag.

The front says:

"Dear Grandma,

It's so hard being the youngest. Today Robbie, Timmy and Amanda held my arms and legs down and put Mac and Cheese on my belly and watched while the dog ate it off. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Love Mackenzie

The back says:
"P.S. PLEASE SEND THEM TO CAMP!!!"

Cookie (Jack Russell Terrier) in Her Bunny Costume

Pets like having fun too! This is Cookie our Jack Russell in her Bunny Halloween Costume. She really did cry when I took the ears and tail off her. She sat in a chair for an hour with it on.

Party Game and Prize Ideas

I like to have a variety of games and a prize or two for the winners.

Prizes: I go to the dollar store and grab things that make cute prizes like scented soap with sponge, mini-photo albums, stationary chocolate candies, girly items wrapped in pink and for boys I'd wrap in a blue, candy, mini basketball with over trash basket, water guns, humor prank toys and one that for some reason they love and find funny is the giant calculator.

Games: It's a tradition for me to make a crossword game which you can personalize and print out online for free at mycrosswordmaker or puzzlemaker.com. The category would be, of course, about the birthday boy-girl. For example I would ask what is Mikayla's Grandfather's nic name? The people who know her best would have the advantage of winning or fastest people to go about and ask - which is a fun way for people to meet and mingle with the family members.

Then I'd have other games like I would draw a treasure map (I like to go all out by drawing out the property lot with directions on how to go about N, E, S, W and the number of steps. Then I crumble, and IRON the map to create old look with little browning burn holes! For the treasure that they're looking for would be a small item like a little locket with my daughter's picture in it.

I also like to play Charades, Musical Chairs for adults with a child in their lap, Blindfold dressup (where you can't see what you are putting on and how - fun for boys and girls) and Freeze dance.

Then some games that are simple like throw the ping-pong ball on the basket or if it is a babyshower throw diaper in trash which female seem 2 score more then men!

All these games can be played without having to really purchase anything except the prizes. The more creative you get with games the more fun. Like for freeze dance you can also have the kids tie 2-4 balloons to a rubberband and slip it on each ankle and everytime the music stops the person with most of their balloons pop falls out. So on until down to the winner (untouchable)!

Hope You Enjoy!

Saving Money on Haircuts for Guys:

Instead of going to the barber shop for a haircut my husband and I bought a set of hair clippers for about $50. After a couple of haircuts the clippers have paid for themselves many times over. I also cut my sons' hair with them. Now I save 3 times as much!

"Soldier of mine"-Poem

Dear sweer soldier of mine
I hope you are doing fine
I pray daily for your safe return
Home,today is not to soon
Marching off to the war
Please let me thank you
One more time
Thank you for your sacrifice
Thank you for your time
Always in my thoughts
Forever in my mind
If tommorrow finds you in this war
I know that our freedom
Is what you are fighting for
So please let me thank you
One more time
Oh thank you dear sweet soldier of mine
You're always in my prayers
And always on my mind.

I found this poem in a local T.V guide at our grocery store and wanted to share it with all of you. The author is Kelle-Irene Marie Carter.
She wrote it for Sgt. David Wheeler who is stationed in Iraq.

Using Generic Salad Dressing

We buy lots of different kinds of salad dressing in our house. To save money, I pop out the insert that's in the name brand dressing when it's empty instead of throwing it away take the plastic part that makes the dressing come out slower. Then you can put it in the generic dressing bottle and it doesn't drown your salad.

Raising the Dishpan

Save your back by raising your dishpan. Depending on the depth of your sink, place something under your dishpan to raise it high enough that you can stand up straight while doing the dishes. A plastic milk crate works well in a deep sink. An upside down 9x13 inch pan is great for a kitchen sink.
