"Twas the Day After Christmas"

Photo of an after Christmas mess.

Twas the day after Christmas when all through the mall
Not a shopper was stirring, they had all hit the wall
The stockings were empty, the trees were all bare
In hopes that the Visa bill, wouldn't be there.

The children were hyper, like too many meds
While candy cane sugar rush went to their heads
With mammas and daddys all feeling like crap
And everyone needing a post turkey nap.

To drive in the city seemed fraught with dangers
Cos the stores were all busy with present exchangers
"Half off it all" they screamed in the ad
And missing that sale would really be bad.

So into the cars we make the huge leap
And just like Black Friday, we run out like sheep
The car ads are frightening, tax time will be soon
With Androids and 4G, iPods and iTunes.

With the house a disaster and the carcass to clean
We'll have turkey hash till next Halloween
Decoration debris is scattered down halls
Cos the cat ate the tinsel and the dog ate the balls.

The games are all on and the guys wait for scores
Some will get cheers but some will get snores
The Santa's departed, the cheeks have been kissed
While granting the kiddies their long Christmas list.

We sit and we think "Wow! Another year gone"
Then we hear a noise somewhere out on the lawn
It's New Years partiers - now that's way too soon
It's not New Years Day - heck it's not even noon.

But all we can think of is this - with bereft
There's just 364 shopping days left!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Thanks everyone! I had a lot of fun with this. I also put it on FB so it's out there in the ether!

The last line is something that I drive my friends and family crazy with each year, so I was thinking instead of putting it in an email, I might think of some other things to do with "one day down and counting" and it just evolved from there.

I had a very low key Christmas. But, I am hoping that things will be better for all of us this New Year. I love that I can share my silliness and creativity with all of you.

And Jess, I loved the photo you added...perfect!
