Petroleum Jelly to Remove Tar

Sometimes you can get tar from walking on the beach here in California - either on your shoes or on your bare feet! I had just read that applying petroleum jelly to grease would help get it off, so I used it on the white soles of my boat shoes. Voila! The tar was removed.
