Use Old Inner Tubes for Staking a Tree

Save your old ruined bike inner tubes. The make great tree holders when staking a tree, and require no cutting. Simply take the tube, fold it in half so that the 2 looped ends are together. Place around the tree and then drive your stake through the loops and your set. The wide rubber won't damage the tree like a rope would.
