Scrapbook stores and hobby shops sell a pH pen. Make a mark on the paper. If it shows purple, its acid free. If it shows yellow or clear, it is NOT acid free.

Before you purchase your scrap book read the writing on the outside of the album. It should be visible underneath the plastic that encases the album. If it is acid free, it will say so. Then if you decide to add pages to the album just make sure that you purchase pages that also say acid free. Hope this helps.
