"Clean clothes are important to everyone. Getting clothes clean is not hard if the correct methods and laundry products are used. Water and detergent are the basic ingredients for getting clothes clean, so the types of water and detergent used are very important - College of Agriculture and Home Economics New Mexico State University
Of course you read scientific journals. With the whooping cough epidemic you might want to change your habits. Typical- if it is not happening to me it is not happening. The increased incidence of asthma is one reason to remove dead skin cells from the washing machine. But of course some people are just plain nasty. you probably don't wash your hands with soap after using the toilet either.

What a load of twaddle! All that is needed to get clothes clean, unless they are stained, is water and agitation. I wash all my clothes in plain cold water. I pre treat any obvious dirty marks with soap and soak any tough stains in nappy soaker for 24-48 hours, then wash as normal. Despite all the dire warnings about infections being passed on from clothes and washing machines I have yet to experience any, nor have I ever seen any scientific studies to give any credence to this bizarre assertion. I would be interested if anyone could find me any references to this.
