You can use Rustoleum paint that you buy from a home depot store like Loebs. They have lots of color and the paint job is really durable.

The type of paint you use might vary depending on the type of counter top. I did a search "How to paint counter tops" and found several solutions. Most of them are for painting laminate counter tops. One solution is to use bonding primer, 2-3 layers of latex paint and then 3 coats of polyurethane to seal. Lots of work, but might be a solution if you already have leftover paint.

Rustoleum is a good choice (as already mentioned) or you can try Melamine paint. It is quite durable, long-lasting and moisture resistant (good for kitchens and bathrooms). The key to this is making sure your paint will adhere by cleaning first with TSP and lightly sanding the surface. Good Luck!
