Fill a barrel with lava rock and use that as your filter for your pond. Your water will stay cleaner longer.

Does the water stay clear from Algae? We have sponges in our filters that we have to clean every week and we are trying to find an easier way to maintain our 3 ponds. I hear people talk about lava rocks being used as filters without routine cleaning. Can you tell me more?

It looks very rustic-and I like the idea that cascades. I think it is very pretty-and solves the delima I have had about a cascading stream and how I was going to do it. Do you ever empty the barrel and clean off the lava rocks with a pressure hose??
