We have sponges in our filters that we have to clean every week and we are trying to find an easier way to maintain our 3 ponds. I hear people talk about lava rocks being used as filters without routine cleaning. Can you tell me more? I think it is very pretty-and solves the delima I have had about a cascading stream and how I was going to do it. Do you ever empty the barrel and clean off the lava rocks with a pressure hose??
