Cheetos

This our newest member to our family. His name is "Cheetos". He about 6 weeks old. Someone abandoned his mom, him and 3 siblings. All have found new, happy safe homes. He is such a joy to my kids and we all love him dearly.

Toby (Maltese/Cockapoo)

His name is Toby. He is a Senior! He is 10 years old but still acts like a puppy! He is a Malta Cocka Poo! Yes that is correct! His Mother was a Maltese, his Father was half Cocker and half Poodle! We got Toby 10 years ago and he was in the paper and the last in the litter.

He loves to play with his stuffed animals. Matter of fact any new stuffed animal that comes into this house, Toby thinks it is for him. He loves EEYORE! If he sees a stuffed animal he is out to get it!

We love Toby, he is a part of our family and a love bug!

Create a Garden Tunnel

Create an easy garden tunnel for your kids. Use 10 foot long, 1/2 inch diameter PVC pipe and push each end into the ground to create an arch. The arch will be about 4 feet wide at the bottom, and about 3-4 feet tall. Make another arch about every 2 feet apart. Attach plastic garden fencing to the frame with cable ties. Morning glories will cover the tunnel quickly; you can also plant pole beans and other climbing vegetables. This is an inexpensive way to create a natural fort for your kids!

Laundry Organizing Tips

Tips to help you organize your home's laundry. Post your ideas.

Keeping Control of the Laundry

Do a load of laundry every day if you are lucky enough to have a washer and dryer at home. I like to start a load before I go to bed, change it into the dryer in the morning. Next evening, I empty the dryer, start new load of wash, and fold and put away yesterday's clean stuff. When I empty the dryer, I dump the clothes on the bed, so I can't get in without tending to it!

Different Bags for Different Tasks

Some days I may do several stops that require different materials or supplies. I have each activity's stuff in a separate tote bag, and just grab the bags I need that day. The gym bag, the baby-sitting bag, business-related tasks, etc. in another bag. Somedays I leave the house with 3 or more bags, but I get where I need to go with what I need to have!

Wake Up to a Clean Kitchen

Regardless of how tired you are, resist the urge to leave your dishes dirty in the kitchen overnight. There is nothing more depressing than waking up to a dirty kitchen.

Make A Cool Desk Blotter

I have a new "antique" desk with leather inlay on the top. However, I didn't want to scratch it. I also didn't wish to cover it with a traditional or plain desk blotter.

I had the glass shop cut a piece of plexiglass for me, about 18' X 14". You can do whatever size you wish. You can also get the plexiglass in colors, but I used clear. It's just a few dollars.

I bought some white velour self-stick 1" pads and put one in each corner of the plexiglass. Voila! An instant desk blotter that lets me put my iBook, hot mugs of coffee, etc, on my desk without marring it. It also provides a protected writing or work/crafting surface.

I can display photos underneath and they are protected. I have also placed a sheet of fabric in a pattern I liked under the clear blotter. So you can change the look of your blotter with the mood or seasons. You can also use a dry-erase marker to write yourself reminders on the blotter if you like.

It cleans easily with window cleaner or simply vinegar water. I try not to get the velour pads wet, but they can be easily and cheaply replaced for pennies.

Dollar Store Photo Album For Recipes

Little Recipe Books

I went to the 99 cent store and bought 4 small 4x6 photo albums with plastic pockets. Then I bought 4x6 index cards and made recipe books out of them. I labeled one "main dishes", one "side dishes", one "desserts", and one "soups". I stood them up on end and each binder is labeled with which book it is and they look nice on my counter and are handy. The plastic inserts also keep my pages clean.

Gift Basket Excelsior

If you run out of excelsior (or whatever that shredded stuff is called) for a gift basket you're putting together and don't want to make a trip to the store to buy more, try this. If a rustic or "shabby chic" look will work and you have a paper shredder, a pair of scissors, and some brown paper grocery bags, you're all set.

Using your scissors, cut off any printing (store logo, etc.) and glued seams from the bag(s) and discard. Then run pieces of the rest of the bag(s) through your shredder. If you're using a strip-cut shredder as opposed to a cross-cut shredder and want a more finely shredded excelsior, you may have to use your scissors a little. I have one of the old strip-cut shredders and did have to use my scissors after shredding to get the look I wanted, but it was still faster than making a trip all the way to the store. (And cheaper too!) Don't forget to NOT run any of the bags' glued seams through your shredder; the glue is bad for the blades!

Keep a Laundry Basket in Your Trunk

In my car trunk I leave a square laundry basket. When I grocery shop I toss all the bags into it, when I get home I lift out the basket by the handles and take in the groceries in one trip. Also the basket comes in handy when I buy a lot of flowers to plant, I transport them home in it, no dumped soil mess!

Home Remedy for Stretch Marks

My son is now 2 years and 3 months old and we found out last weekend that we have another on the way. The first thing my husband said to me was "You have to go get that stuff you used last time because you don't look like you gained 40 pounds and lost it." That stuff was vitamin E oil. I slathered my self in it everyday after my shower and to that I am thankful to say I have NO stretch marks.

Decorating Red Satin Sheets

I have an elderly (73) friend. He just purchased red satin sheets, he has OLD antique dressers, headboard, and a matching mirror. And he's asking me what color to paint his walls and ceilings. Though he is elderly, he is a little on the "wild" side. So white and tan are out. He thinks black would be good but that will really darken his room and will resemble a pit or "black hole". Any of you have any ideas?

Love this site! Thanks for any ideas you have.

With the higher energy costs, this winter will be a difficult one for many of us. The U.S. Government has an energy assistance program for low income citizens. Click on the link below for more information at the LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assitance Program) website.
