Don't own a rubber mallet? Just cut a slit in a tennis ball and place it on the head of your hammer. Keep the tennis ball in your tool box and you will always have it handy.

Use the same for an awl. Make do drill and tack and staple puller

A Hammer? Not the easiest thing to replace. A brick/Rock/ the handle of a butter knife/Pliers, Monkey Wrench

And how about Pliers? Never been able to find a replacement.

A Vice? Someones elses body /My Feet /A large in place rock

Yep I am the type of guy that when it comes to having to repair or open or shut something. The right tools always run away from my toolbox until the job is done.

Everything thing I wrote has successfully got the job done.

To keep a traditional rubber mallet from making marks, slip an old sock over it and secure it to the handle with a rubber band.
