This is actually a seed onion field, if I am not mistaken. (Unless they had a really bad bolting problem) This is grown strictly for the seeds and not for the bulb. Reply to above post: crushing the leaves of the onion plant will not make it grow any bigger. The number of leaves will determine how big the bulb will get. The more Leaves, and the thicker the neck: the bigger the bulb.

That is so kewl.......never seen such a large field of onions but have seen onions in flowers in parents and hubby's veggie gardens. thanx for sharing

What an interesting picture. I have never seen onion plants with flowers on the top and my family has grown a few onions for years. Thanks for sharing! It is nice to learn and see new things.
