Rex Bathing (Green Iguana)

Rex is 7 years old and a Green Iguana. Rex was adopted by myself several years ago when her former owner (my son) went into the Navy

Rex is a great gal, she likes to take nice long baths. She usually takes a couple of baths a day and usually tries to keep her hair up so it doesn't get wet.

Decoupaged Pop Bottle Bird Feeders

These bird feeders are made from pop bottles with adapters from http://www.mcnaughtoninc.com/ These can be painted or decoupaged and sprayed with clear spray paint. There is a hummingbird feeder, a hanging general feeder and a suction cup to window feeder. Lots of fun and great sellers at craft shows.

Today's Tips:

Keeping Pattern Pieces Together

I am beginning to cut out a robe for my granddaughter. The pattern has several views. I am going to take the pattern pieces which go to one view and fold them together and secure with a paper clip or safety pin. The ones which are to be used for more than one view, I will keep together securing them in the same way. That will make the pieces easier to keep up with and there won't be as much searching for certain pieces

Drying Extra Cilantro

When I make salsa, I use half a bunch of cilantro. For a while, I would just let the extra go bad in my fridge (BAD IDEA). Then I realized that I can easily dry out the remaining cilantro and use it that way!

Preheat oven to 250-300 degrees F. Lightly coat a cookie sheet with baking spray to help with sticking. Strip the leaves off the stems of the cilantro, and spread the leaves in one layer on the cookie sheet. Let the leaves dry out in the oven for 20 -30 minutes, check once. You just want the leaves to lose the fresh green look. Take them out of the oven and cool on the cookie sheet. Use a spatula to scrape off the cookie sheet, and slightly crumble the leaves. Put in an airtight jar and store with spices, use when needed! These will last as long as any other dried herb you buy.

Shaving Cream To Remove Paint From Carpet

My husband and I painted our bedroom forest green. What we didn't realize was that the paint we dripped on the drop cloth was seeping through. We had a ton of dark green paint spots on our near white carpet. What took them all up was Barbasol shaving cream. Spray it on, mush it around and wipe it up with a clean white rag. Some spots only needed it once, others had to be done multiple times. Let soak and scrub.

Break Up Dogs With Noise

To break up dog fights, especially at a dog park where you may not have water available to squirt, vigorously shake a can filled with rocks so you can make a lot of noise. This scares and distracts the dogs enough to run in separate directions. Banging two metal feeding bowls together has the same effect.

Keep or Sell Pine Cones for Christmas

For those who are overrun with pine cones in the yard, especially the big, pretty ones, Bag 'em up! They can become natural decor for Christmas. Some places don't have pine trees, so you may actually be able to sell them online, at a flea market or a fair. I was traveling one year and was shocked to see a small bag of pine cones in a store on sale for $5! I had a yard full of them back home!

Dry Shoes In Front of the Fridge

To dry tennis shoes after washing or to dry out any wet shoes, put them in front of the refrigerator vent grill. Open the laces wide, pull open the tongue of the shoe so the air can get inside and lay shoes on their side with the opening facing the grill. Hold you hand over the grill while the refrigerator is running and you will feel air blowing out one side more than the other, so use this side for faster drying. This is room temperature air so it won't shrink the shoes like a dryer. By morning, they will be dry.

Gorgeous Fabric Picture Frame

Make a gorgeous fabric picture frame to coordinate with your curtains or drapes!

1. Pick large frame like the size of 11"x14" or 16"x20", 18"x20". Larger sizes look more dramatic.

2. Use left over curtain fabric or a coordinating fabric for your frame. Also, use left over thin batting to have a more refined look.

3. Buy and inexpensive foam board 1/4" thick or less or cardboard from a large box.

4. Cut it a few inches smaller than the frame, so you leave enough allowance for the fabric that is going to be wrapped around it.

5. Cut your fabric to size the board and with batting (very thin so you can get in frame after), with 1 1/2 inches extra to seal over corners/sides.

6. Using spray adhesive, spray your board, and gently place batting on on board, smoothing out all the wrinkles.

7. Place fabric on top, sealing on corners and sides with hot glue. Place back into the frame and secure down.

8. Optional: add multiple sizes of family photo for a more personal touch. Sepia or black and white photos look great on fabric frames. Now you have a nice unique coordinating picture in your room everyone will rave about.

New Idea for Brow Makeup

I found a great way of augmenting my eyebrows. Pencil/brow powder just did not work for me - so, after having looked at expensive products on the internet, I was inspired to try something else. I dotted my Revlon Colorstay eyeshadow (in taupe) on my eyebrows and gently blended it into my brows. It worked! Looked great, and what's more, lasted until I removed it with makeup remover, which is more than I can say for what I had used before.

Secret for Delicious Meatballs

Instead of frying your meatballs which adds fat and calories, drop medium size meatballs into boiling chicken broth, cooking for about 15 minutes. Drain on paper towels and then add them to simmering spaghetti sauce. They are very tender, but hold together well.

Wake Up Your Face

For a quick, cheap facial scrub: Take your cooled down coffee grounds and scrub your face gently with them. The grounds will slough off dead skin cells, and the caffeine will "wake up" your skin.

Also, for puffy eyes in the morning, put a little Preparation H on them. (This is a trick of the supermodels who party too hardy the night before a shoot.) It's greasy, so wash it off before putting your makeup on.

Recipes for Convection Ovens

Does anyone have a good step-by-step recipe for a counter top convection oven? I acquired mine without a booklet and the first time I tried to make a cake, it came out with a "Bob's Big Boy" curlicue on top, and it was icky dry. Cookies were crispy outside, but wet on the bottom (too high a temp. probably). So far, I've used it to make jerky and beer can chicken, but I'd love to branch out. Help.

Adding a New Dachshund to Our Family

I currently have two nine year old dachshunds (Gabby and Avery). Next month I am somewhat inheriting another dachshund. He is only 6 months old. My boy dog that I already have is very passive and I know he won't mind the new boy, but my girl dog is very aggressive towards other dogs. She is very territorial and dominant. What would be the best way to ease them all into living in the same house without a problem?

Smoke Damage in a Van

I need suggestions on how to remove smoke damage. My son is going to Welding school, he uses our old mini van for transportation. He carries all his welding supplies in the back of the van, some of it in a big plastic bucket.

He swears he checked to be sure everything was cold when he put it in, but we came home last night and the van was FILLED with thick, black, acrid smoke! Something hot in the bucket smoldered and burned everything in the bucket, melted the bucket to the floor & singed the back seat. It had just started to flame and we put the embers out with the hose!

The biggest problem is major smoke damage. It is in everything; I don't know how we are going to get rid of it. We only had liability on the van, so can't file a claim.

I bought Odo-Ban to wipe down the hard surfaces and upholstery. I got several bags of charcoal to hopefully soak up some of the smell. I also got plain cat litter to pour on the floor where we hosed it, to absorb water and odor. I probably need to rent a shampooer for the upholstery too.

I know this isn't going to get rid of all of the smoke and smell. I'm sure it's in the ventilation system too.

Do any of you have any suggestions on what else we can do to clean up this mess, and get rid of the smell so the thing is drivable again? At this point I'm pretty desperate and willing to try almost anything.

Getting Rid of Spiders with Moth Balls

I have a problem. I have had a new home built. I noticed spiders inside the home (bunches). I asked the contractor what to do? He told us to put moth balls inside the crawl space under the house and it will make the spiders and mice stay away. I sent the contractor's worker under with a whole box of them to spread around. He used the whole box. Now we are all about to gag from the fumes/odor. I guess I will go under and try to find all these moth balls. Any advise what to do about the smell. Will this hurt us or make us sick? I was going to call the pest control initially, but I listened to the contractor and used moth balls. Now I have a night mare of a problem Any suggestions?
