Homemade Duvet Covers |

Duvet covers can be very expensive in the dept. or linen store. I make my own using flat sheets from the discount store ($15 rather than $40 or more.) I sew the sheets together, wrong side out on 3 sides, add use velcro or buttons on the 4th side. The sheet selection is always better than the duvet cover selection - and you can put two different patterns/colors on either side to make it reversible.

I am contemplating making a duvet cover from sheets for a twin blanket. Currently I have a bought duvet cover in a full size, and it's too big for the twin blanket. Do you really need to use full sheets? Won't it also be too big?

What size sheet would you use for a queen comforter? You mention Queen for King; full for twin; and queen for full. Thanks, EF

I made one of these for my daughter's dorm bed. She had purchased a comforter her freshman year and tired of the color and design by her junior year. Sheet duvet cover to the rescue! (It was only at the end of the year that her roommate finally realized that it was the same comforter with a duvet cover.)
Anyway, just wanted to add a tip -- sew 12" lengths of ribbon on the wrong of the duvet at the corners and a few at each side. Then sew 12" length ribbons at matching locations on the comforter. With the duvet inside out, tie the comforter to the duvet. Then flip inside out. The ribbons help keep the comforter in place without shifting. Great way to use up extra pieces of ribbon you might have.

I always buy my sheets to make covers with at the thrift stores. I generally pay about $4 for a set. I then take the elastic out of the fitted sheets and procced like Claudia does. Yes to your question. Queen sizes sheets for a King duvet, fullsize for a twin, queen size for a full. It worked well for me!!

Can anyone tell me what sized you use for the duvet cover? Do you use 2 flat queens for the king size duvet? Can you use 2 full size sheets for a twin? I tried one time using 2 kings for a king bed... it was huge! and them I couldn't find anything large enough to fill it! LOL! Thanks for any help with info or websites!
Also does anyone have what sizes to use to make curtains ( 63 long x110 wide ) from sheets? Would the best size sheet to buy be a queen flat sheets? Websites please :)
