A while back in your column, I saw some homemade remedies for taking care of ants. We get a lot of them in S. CA due to lack of water. Can I get a recap of these suggestions?

Thank you.

I have the really small ants. I have tried everything but blowing my house up. They don't bite but they are all over. I can come into my kitchen when it is really clean and there they are. I called a bug guy and he told me he could spray but it wasn't a guarantee that it would work. He would have to spray every other month. Please if someone knows about these tiny ants let me know.

I have heard that mixing boric acid in some cream of wheat and then putting it into a straw...you then cut the straw into little pieces with the cream of wheat/boric acid mix in it and putting it under your house...they will be attracted to the cream of wheat, take it to their queen...and the boric acid will kill her and then all the rest. Just don't put it where pets can get to it.

Hi,
I've put a mixture of Borax and honey in small container (bottle cap) and placed it where the ants were... bingo no more ant problem!

Hi,

I read about putting fresh mint around in small containers, especially near entrances.(windows too) I tried it and it worked well for me. Hope it works well for you also.

While I don't think this will work for you because you don't want to have it around your other pets. For anyone without pets they can use Terro Ant Killer II--they take it back to the queen and it kills her and the colony dies off. Very effective in my experience, but is deadly to pets and other animals.

We had ants.....and I am diebetic so they love me...and the little beggars can bite..make me swell and legs burn like fire.....I'm of course allergic.....cinnamon helped.....but son got some stuff you put a few drops on a bit of paper....(from hard ware store) It will not hurt dogs....and I kept it in ant trail in my office away from any visiting children......Got rid of the little bums....but it took about two weeks......if you have the marching variety try drawing a chalk line across their march line.....they are reputed to hate that...cinnamon, hot pepper....all those things will mess with their ability to smell one another.....and will leave them to mill around lost....

Spray them with Windex. I tried it and it is very effective. I have also heard that putting vegetable oil on a paper towel and wiping door stops, etc. will stop them from crossing the door stop.

Sprinkle cinnamon where the ants go (doors, around pet food). They hate cinnamon. The ants will go somewhere else!
