Volume Six, Number 79, April 23, 2007 (Read It Online)

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I spent the weekend with my 3 sisters, we had a blast. Because we live all over the state of Washington, we met in the middle and get a chance to really catch up. The next holiday we are focusing on is Mother's Day. What are your favorite Mother's Day gift ideas? We would also love to hear about your favorite Mother's Day memory or tradition. Please share them here:

Jace As Ring Bearer

Just wanted to share a photo from my daughter's wedding this past June. This is my grandson, Jace. He is my son's little one. My husband and I just cannot get enough of this little guy. Jace has us wrapped around his little finger. This is from the reception, he was the ring bearer.

Spring Tulips and My Grandmother's Quilt

My tulips were spectacular this year, but the background deck railing, porch furniture, and grill were highly distracting when I photographed the flowers. So I draped my grandmother's quilt over the rail and presto, drama in my garden! I e-mailed this photo to several family members and the sight of the quilt sparked some wonderful memories of our late grandmother.

Roper's Impression (Quarter Horse)

My pet's name is Roper's Impression. He is 22. He is a Quarter Horse. I got Roper about 1 year ago. I am currently leasing him.

Roper likes to run around in the arena or pasture and playing with beach balls. He is a wonderful horse and I don't know what I would do without him. He has taught me so much about trust and riding.

Blu Venus (American Staffordshire)

Blu Venus is a 2 year old American Staffordshire. I traded out stud service of one of my males for her.

She likes to chew my shoes up. Plus sleep in my bed with a pillow and blanket.

She talks back at us when we get onto her. She starts this howling type barking, then runs and gets in bed.

Tawny (Weimaraner)

Tawny is 6 this year and she is a Weimaraner. Tawny came to us from a free ad in the local paper.

She loves to play tug-of-war with her brothers/sister (there are a total of 4 dogs in the family.)

Tawny is the perfect example of the free dogs out there. Why buy one when eventually, with patience, you can get just about anything you are looking for in the free ads.

These contests are weekly. We pick 2 tip winners and 1 photo winner at the end of each week. Each winner will win $25!

Today's Tips:

Plastic Folgers Container For Compost

I like to save scraps for the compost, but needed something to store the scraps. I like using the 38 oz plastic Folger's coffee canisters to use as storage. It looks good, has a handle and is airtight. I also use the canisters for soil and gardening supplies.

Removing Tight Rings

This works every time. If you can't get your ring off your finger, spray Windex all around the ring and off it will come. You'll never forget this tip after it works for you just once. Have a nice day.

Angel Foods For Struggling Families

I have a large family, and food is a big part of our income. Two years ago, a friend told me about a place called Angel Food Ministries. You don't have to have any income checks or belong to any church. It is a great food program.

To find a host site and check out the menu, visit http://www.angelfoodministries.com.

The menu changes every month, there is a lot of meat, chicken and veggies. It has helped my family so much, the cost is so little for so much. I believe they have sites all over the USA. If you need more info, let me know.

Milk Prevents Batter from Sticking to Your Spoon

Dip your spoon in milk when baking cakes, brownies or cookies. This will keep the batter from sticking to the spoon when scraping the bowl or spooning out the batter.

Big Lots Has Deals For Scrapbookers

Scrapbookers! Save money on scrapbooking supplies by shopping at BIG LOTS! I would have never thought to get supplies there, until I went to the grand opening in my town. They only have an aisle, but boy is there a lot! All the stickers, stamps, punches, beads, tags and other decorative pieces are $1.00. The paper bundles are a dollar or more. They even have theme sets that include 12x12 inch paper, stickers, bubble alphabet stickers and other coordinating accessories for $2.00. The exciting thing is they get new stuff in all the time! These are brand name products usually found at craft stores. Happy Crafting!

Recycle Yarn From Old Sweaters

Instead of paying $10 or more for a good skein of yarn, I recycle old sweaters from Goodwill/Salvation Army! There is a great tutorial listed online at:

So far, I have paid $3 for a total of 3 sweaters and gotten 10 large sized balls of yarn in total. The key is to look for a sweater with the correct seam (as listed in the tutorial) and be very careful when seam ripping. But if you do it right, it will be a great source of new yarn. Once it has been knitted or crocheted, no one will ever know the difference!

Cookie Of The Month Present

For my Dad's Birthday last year, I gave him a cookie of the month club. Every month near his birth date, I brought him a batch of cookies, brownies, or bars. He liked it very much and always looked forward to the gifts. This is good because they already own enough stuff and can buy whatever they need. Next year, I'm thinking of candy of the month.

Neighbor Cats on My Porch

My neighbor's cats get on my porch every night. Besides scaring me awake, they pee on the carpeting and chairs and make a lot of racket. I cannot consult my neighbor about the problem as she is quite ill and I don't want to add to her distress. Is there any way I can deter the cats from using my Porch?

Skin Care Advice

I am looking for some new skin care items and would like to know your experiences with products. I'm 36 and the three biggest issues I have are: dark circles under my eyes, dryness and starting of undereye wrinkles and some bags (I do use an eye moisterizer) and sallow, uneven skin tone. I use sunscreen every day and do avoid the sun. I've tried so many products and haven't found anything that I "have to have" so any advice is helpful!

Thanks!

Spring Cleaning at its Finest
By Kelly Ann Butterbaugh

The mood to clean up and refresh seems to be an annual idea. Perhaps it's the freshness of the outdoors, the signs of new life, or just the need to make changes after months of being cooped indoors. Regardless, some basic financial rules need to be followed when delving into spring cleaning: sell it, donate it, toss it.

The Joy of Hydroponics
By Ellen Brown

The exact definition of "hydroponics" is a little tricky. While the Greek words "hydro" and "ponics" means "water" and "labor," respectively, the art of hydroponics has to do with soil-less gardening; but not necessarily in water.
