We have nice cabinets but old and chipped countertops. What is the best way to replace the countertops? Is there s place that I can measure all my surfaces and order counter tops that will fit each cabinet online? Any general advice about replacing countertops would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim from OR

By now you might have found something, but for anyone else wondering, Lowe's sells about 5-6 different styles of formica countertops online. I beleive the smallest size is 4 feet long & it is $34.

Tile the counter. Its not too difficult. You can customize it easily, the most inexpensive ways are to use white field tiles, and use broken colored tiles as mosaics. You can add a mosaic of any colors or design by breaking broken tiles up. Broken tiles can be bought for next to nothing.Mosaic designs can be copied from anything. Tiles wear well and are heat resistant. Let your imagination run wild.
Remember to seal the grout well.

You can see our kitchen re-do which included tiled counters and backsplashes under "Home Improvement" Photo tips dated mid November 2005. There are before and after pictures.

Good luck!
