Stanley is a 4 year old Dachsund. I had surgery 4 years ago and my husband bought him for me. I always wanted a "hotdog" dog. :O) He likes to chase his rope, sit up on his hind legs for a treat and play with his adopted brother. He's the best pet I have ever had. He is my buddy and my best friend. By Monica from Eastpointe, MI Contest Contender!

We had cupboards added on and a new countertop but the old backsplash had been tiled and we couldn't match them up. I put up the paintable wallpaper primed and painted it with silver metallic paint and then several coats of varathane. It look amazing, just like tin. For my 17 foot counter I used half a roll of the paper so the whole project was under $50. By Carol from Waterloo, Ontario Contest Contender!

Use Contractor Tubs For Summer Party Food For summer parties, some people use a kids swimming pool to put ice in to keep food cold. I found that by the end of the afternoon on a warm day, the food is literally "swimming" in water as the ice melts, creating a mess and watered down food in some cases. My solution was to purchase contractors tubs, available at home improvement centers, and use those instead. What I do is put a layer of ice in the bottom and then put the whole tub in a large trash bag. Now the food stays not only cold, but the containers stay dry as well. An added bonus is that it is easier to dump out at the end of the party, because they are not so heavy and clumsy. I just dump out the water and any ice that is left, let them dry, and put them away for the next party. The trash bags are hung on the clothesline to dry and can be put with the tubs to use again or used as trash bags as they were intended. 3 or 4 of these tubs seem to be enough for a party of 30-40 people. These could also be used for any indoor party, as they take up a lot less space than a swimming pool. By Tru from Lena, WI Contest Contender!

Remedy for Moist, Stinky Shoes To get moisture or stink out of shoes, fill two old socks with baking soda and knot at the ends. Shove deep into the shoes and let them sit overnight. The shoes should be dry or very close to dry and any odor should be gone! By Beth B. from Lee, FL Contest Contender!

A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off, he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday. "I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror. On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was. Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M and M's. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, 'Well Dear, what was it like being six again?' Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. "I meant my dress size, you idiot!" The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong. By Stacey from West Jordan, UT Contest Contender!

"No Boredom Bag" For Car Trips For car trips with kids, I make a "no boredom bag". It can be a backpack, or any bag, but ones with pockets are good. It depends on what age as to what you put in it, but I usually put the following for my 9 year old :4-5 coloring/activity books, a book to read, a small pack of crayons, a small pack of markers, a small magnadoodle, various snacks, a spillproof cup, wet wipes, some car games, and an mp3 player. Most of it can be bought at the dollar store, and can be mixed and matched according to the child's preferences and ages, and it solves the "are we there yet?" and "I'm so bored!" comments. If you are re-doing your cookware, save the lids if they are in good shape. If not, take a good, long look at those pot handles and lid knobs. A lot of these items are in standard form and interchangeable. I find it so annoying when I buy a set of cookware and the lids need to be exchanged between pots and skillets (as in I am either using the 6 qt pot or using the 12 inch skillet, but I can't cover both at the same time). This holds true for the expensive as well as the inexpensive sets. By cookwie from Richardson, TX Contest Contender!

Pack a Thermos for Family Outings Take a thermos with you on family outings to avoid eating in expensive restaurants. You can fill them with hot dogs, sloppy Joe, BBQ beef, tuna salad, etc. You can serve it on fancy rolls or pita bread when you're ready to eat. When everyone is ready to eat, pull over at the nearest park and have a nice picnic. You'll save a lot of money and have a nice family meal that you will remember more than eating at a restaurant. Eating outside makes it fun, and taste better. By Kim from Kansas Contest Contender!

Rate It: Should I give my cat annual shots? My cat had annual shots at the rescue shelter before we adopted him a year ago. They are now due again, he's an indoor cat and never comes into contact with any other cats. Is there really any advantage to getting his shots up to date or is it just a way of the vets to get you to spend money? I can't see how he can catch any diseases if he never goes out of the house. Rate It: Dye Transfer From Jeans to Fabric Couch Our babysitter sat on our almost white sofa and left the stain of her new jeans in a perfect outline on the cushions. Is there anyone who knows what to do to get out the dye? Our fabric protection policy says that it will only remove food stains. So I will have to do it myself. Please help. T. Rate It: Discouraging Door to Door Solicitors I had been overrun with all types of solicitors at my front door. I painted a lovely and very readable "no soliciting" sign and put it on my front door. Would you believe that no one thinks it applies to them? I am dumbfounded. Yesterday I had a siding and window salesman tell me it was OK, because he wasn't selling anything, only doing a survey (ha). Just now I had a man with a couple of notebooks at the door who said the same thing. I promptly said "read the sign" and slammed the door in his face. I'm angry about this and wonder if others are experiencing the same thing and how you deal with it.
