I used stations all over the room. I had a regular play station with about 10 pounds of cheap rice in a tub that could be covered with a few measuring cups and spoons inside.
I had a word station with a hanging pocket chart of words that we were working on and they could make sentences or sometimes I'ld print out nursery rhymes and let them put the sentence strips in order.
There was a lego station where they had instructions (different each day) to sort byt color or size or count and hook together.
One they especially loved was the dry erase board where they could practice writing (copying) words I had taped to the board.
There has to be a calendar corner with the days of the week and weather for the day.
One thing they especially loved was the do-it-yourself attendance tree. I made a large tgree trunk out of brown paper and a huge top from green. I cut out an apple and put the name of each child on one. They were laminated for durability and had a paper clip hanger attached. The tree had hooks poking through from the back side. Each child would find his or her apple each day and put it on the tree. Any apples left in the basket were the abset ones. Obviously I checked for accuracy but they loved being able to find their names and get on the tree.
I always had a reading corner with a large rocker, lots of pillows and a few carpet samples. Use of the rocker was a special treat or assignment.
Well, that's not quite an answer to your question but I always found that however I had started out would have to be changed in a few days anyway. Guys this age love color and movement and touching, but then you already knew that! Hav e fun. That's the very best class ever!
