To prolong the life of your jack-o-lantern after making the cuts, coat the cuts with petroleum jelly.

Good idea. Do you have any suggestions to keep the gnats away if you keep it outside?

To make your jack-o-lantern smell nice, sprinkle some cinnamon on the inside of the lid. The heat from the candle will enhance the aroma.
