New York Christmas Charities

My name is Dee and I'm a single mother of four amazing children. Three months ago my husband of 19 years walked out on us for another woman. I was left with no means to support the children. I'm in full time school for medical billing at Bradford Hall. Due to him leaving we lost our home and we are now in a shelter. I had to go down to the department of Social Services.

I am hoping that there is an organization that can help me make sure Santa comes to our home. I'm running out of time and I'm hurting. I can't imagine waking up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree. Please anything will help, even prayers. Thank you and God bless.

Try Catholic charities and/ or your own church, if you have one. They usually can help in emergency situations. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

If, as you say you are in a shelter, you won't have a tree and there will more than likely be one in the shelter with a gift for each kid under the tree. Anyway that is the way the shelters that I am aware of operate. If you went to DSS, and have a place of your own you should be on food stamps and if your husband is paying child support you do have some cash. If he isn't paying child support go to the child support collection office and they will tend to starting the process for you. Your social worker at DSS should have told you this, also he/she should have suggested different places to look for Christmas help. Most of the charities that do that kind of thing had a deadline of at least one week ago. Don't you have relatives that would be giving the kids gifts? You should have started your shopping when your husband left. I start no later than February every year and have been done for at least two months.
