Make Photo Albums for Your Children

With the computer age, many people now store their pictures on discs. But for those of us who still like standard photo albums, here's an idea.

Years ago, after my mother died, my siblings and I had to go through old unmarked photos trying to figure out who some of the people were and who got what photos. Having two children of my own, I didn't want them to have to go through that. I decided to create family albums for each of them. As I have always put info (names, dates, places, etc.) on the back of my prints, that part was done.

I bought a couple of new photo albums, the ones that have clear photo holders. I then divided the pictures between my children, making sure each child had many pictures of each other. I also made duplicates of extended family photos for each. I put the photos in their albums. Now I just add to them as needed. They can have them when they marry, etc. to add to their family memories.

I have made photo albums for my three children so that they will always have them. I also make dvd's using their pictures by scanning them onto our computer, add music and text. Then they can watch them either on a computer or on tv. I decided to do it both ways so that they have more than one choice of showing other family and friends their pictures. Sometimes in today's world kids would rather have the dvd but later in life the photo album may mean more to them.

I made a photo album of & for each of my 3 children, then when they grew up I gave it to them as a wonderful gift! This would also make a wonderful wedding gift (think far into the future!) My daughter now shows her album to HER daughter & is making an album for her too!

I started with newborn photos & went in order as they grew. I labeled the pages with simple phrases (in small print) like "spring 1985" & "summer 1986" etc & placed these lables down at the bottom corner of the page... The albums need not be fancy, in fact, the more photos you can fit in with the less "doo-dads" the better. Your kids will appreciate the photos far more than the doo-dads you add. But adding things like a baby hospital bracelet, or a copy of the birth certificate or dog-tags etc is always appreciated!

Adding a pocket for a DVD in the back is a good idea! Also, choose simple backgrounds for your children's photos & zoom in closely. They will turn out far better!
