Feather (Peek-a-Poo) And Geo Caching

This is Feather. He is a 10 month old Peek-a-Poo. He loves Geo Caching. The picture is of Feather and one of the 15 Geo Caches we found on our summer camping trip to the Oregon Coast. Geo Caching is a great outdoor activity for families or almost anyone. All you need is a hand held GPS unit (you can get them for less than $100). Geo Caching is where get coordinates from the internet site input them into your hand held GPS unit, then off you go to fine the geo cache site using your GPS to guide you. Once you find the site there will be a cache and in it will be a log book for you to log your visit. There are millions of geocaches all over the world. It is becoming a very popular thing to do with families, because the only cost is the cost of the GPS unit. Go to the the web site www.geocaching.com to get all the information and to find the hidden treasures near you.

Use Your Lawn Mower To Move Leaves

This is gardening tip and a how to. We have 3 English walnut trees. When the leaves fall, we like to clean them up because we heard the leaves are toxic. Every fall we blow them in a pile then unto a large tarp. He uses an "s" hook in the corner grommets of the tarp and hooks it to the back of his lawn mower. One year he tried pulling the tarp by himself and pulled a groin muscle. That was not fun.

Garden: Squirrel in a Ponderosa Pine

Have been feeding and taking pictures from my balcony of the squirrels that hang out in the courtyard of my apartment building for a few months now ...

They have become much less afraid and yesterday I was able to get this zoom photo of one of the squirrels hanging out in the Ponderosa Pine tree just fifteen feet from the balcony railing :-) Gave me great joy :-)

Craft: Cheesecloth Ghosts In My House!

Simple and easy and CHEAP! Blow up a balloon and dip a square of cheesecloth into fabric stiffener. Drape over balloon. Let dry and then pop the balloon. Add felt eyes or use a dark marker. Be sure to leave a flat bottom on a few edges of the cloth so the ghost has something to stand up on, but the other edges can be sticking out to give a "floating" look. Have fun!

Pumpkin-Carving Party

Think Superbowl and plan a pumpkin-carving party for your friends and family with children. Everyone brings a pumpkin and a food contribution. We make jack-o-lanterns, roast pumpkin seeds, share a simple feast (maybe chili, mac and cheese for the kids, apple cider, etc.) and even toss some of the prepared Halloween cookies you put on a sheet and bake into the oven. After that the kids play, adults chat, and we all have a great time. What a great way to open the holiday season!

Warning About Treadmill Dangers For Children

I have a warning about treadmills for any of you with small children or grandchildren. A friend of mine was telling me yesterday how her 4 year old grandson grabbed a treadmill while it was running and it removed the muscles and tendons on both hands. He didn't lose his fingers, but he will no longer have palms and is undergoing many surgeries.

Planning for Retirement

Retirement, so you think you are ready or close to the magic age. Be prepared. Make sure you haven't any bills to pay out, like a car or house payments. Do you have your second insurance to cover you and your spouse when you see a doctor, or be rushed to the hospital? Medicare will take out $96.50 per month from your S.S. check. Even without car or house payments, you still have to pay for water, gas, and/or an electric bill. Also, you have to maintain your car. You will need to buy a health coverage for your medications.

Take stock for what you have to pay out each month and how much you can put back for travel or trips that may come up that weren't planned. You will get a retirement check, but if you owe money you can get hurt. You will live on what you get for one month before another check arrives.

Spend wisely. Grow some of your food, even if it's grown in big flowers pots. Take this from someone who has lived on retirement for three years. Be sure in save some money before you have that last day at work.

God Bless.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

I received this email from a relative and I thought it was the "BEST IDEA" since sliced bread. This may have been sent through ThriftyFun before but I think it was worth sending in case it was missed. Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident, when they come across your cell phone.

It is called ICE (In Case of Emergency). We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Which number is the contact person in case of an emergency?

Hence this ICE Campaign It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.' For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today! Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.

Headstart on Summer Toes and Hands

To get a head start on summer toes and hands, here is an idea you can start right now. I usually wear white socks with my gym shoes or boots and at night after my bath or shower. Whenever I have on white socks, I will slather on petroleum jelly on my feet to keep them soft. For my hands, I use the same technique, but I use the thin rubber gloves and I put only half the amount on my hands (your hands do not absorb the jelly as fast as your feet. I wear the gloves under my regular gloves, at night or when I cleaning (I can usually fit my gloves over the thinner rubber gloves) Since I change my pedicure/manicure to schedule from 1 a week to every two weeks, this helps my feet/hands stay in shape. No more rushing around when summer hits trying to get my feet/hands together.

Bonus: A 10 pack of rubber gloves cost just $1.00 at the dollar store. I can usually wear one pair of rubber gloves at least three times before reaching for a new pair.

Product Review: Goody's Headache Powder

Product: Goody's headache powder

Cost: $1.50

If you get real bad headaches like I do sometimes around that time of the month or just bad ones that will not go away, over at dollar general is a medicine called Goody's headache powder. Get the orange flavored. Man does that work good. It is powdered form and you open the package up and make sure you have a drink with you and just put the stuff in your mouth and take a sip and swallow. I know it is weird but it does work. I can get it for about dollar and 50 cents and you get 5 powder sticks. It does work .

Add Chocolate Chips To Generic Brownie Mix

Any box mix of brownies can taste better when you add some inexpensive chocolate chips into the batter. I have bought generic chips at Krogers and Aldi and they both worked just fine! This makes the brownies richer, creamier and tastier. I add 1/2 bag to the mix.

Tips For Travel Food

I love to travel abroad but it has gotten very expensive. One way I save money on a bus tour is to bring much of my own food from home. Most of the time breakfast is provided but when the bus stops for lunch I use the time to sightsee or shop. I bring items to eat on the bus like cheese crackers, peanut butter, bottled water,, etc. Sometimes breakfast has fruit you can take with. Some hotels have microwaves and I also bring some microwaveable meals that don't need refrigeration for dinner, then maybe go out for ice cream. Food abroad is very expensive and this saves a lot on the trip.

When traveling at home, we always bring a cooler for cold drinks. This sure beats paying $1.00 at the hotel vending machine.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.

The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.

"That laundry is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap" Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Everytime her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this?"

The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Organization Ideas For Small Bedroom

I'm 14 and I have a very small bedroom that never seems to stay clean. I have a twin size bed, a small 3 shelved book shelf (that is full) and a dresser type thing. I have very little room on either side of my bed, but still it seems to just get messy. So if you have any organizational tips that will be easy for me to keep track of that help it would be greatly appreciated. I can't start to decorate my room until my organizing gets better.

Using Baby Lotion as a Facial Cleanser

Does anyone have any advice or opinions about using baby lotion as a facial cleanser? My skin is dry and sensitive and baby lotion seems the best bet because where I live it is cheap compared to "sensitive skin" products. It is even half the price of Ponds cold cream!

At the same time, I don't want to save money at the expense of doing damage to my face. If it is ok to use it, can it be applied and rinsed off or do you put it on with cotton wool, or what? Can anyone help, please?

Trouble With Acia Website

I recently ordered from two different trial offers on Acia. They said I would have 14 days to cancel before they sent more. When I tried to cancel, the phone was blocked and the addresses they gave were blocked. So even though I canceled, they billed me for around $80.00. I have yet to see any Acia. They cannot be contacted and keep billing my card for more Acia.

I am working with my bank, but will probably have to pay and keep paying because I cannot get a hold of them. I have kept all e-mail info, but cannot send a reply message. They have blocked everything. I just want to warn others, so they will not be scammed like me.

Storing Large Wind Chimes in Winter

My husband bought me 8 foot wind chimes from the Amish country while on vacation this year. I love them and enjoy both the visual and acoustic sound they give. But as winter draws near with the snow and ice being a daily concern for 3 months, should I store them away for winter or just leave outside?

They are very heavy and we had to hang them way up high in a very large tree, so moving them back and forth will be a lot of trouble. But I want them to be able to last as many years as possible.

If anyone has advice on how they up keep theirs so they last longer I would like to hear about it. They have a large wooden top on them and have very strong strings from which they dangle from. I'm not sure if the harsh weather will effect them or not. Thanks in advance.

Lighten the Fuel Load
By Kelly Ann Butterbaugh

A recent CNN report stated that airlines are reducing fuel costs by lightening airplanes. Drinking glasses have been replaced by plastic ones, and any unnecessary item such as an old cooking oven in the stewards' area has been removed. By replacing beverage/meal carts with newer, lighter carts, US Airways estimates that it will save $1.7 million a year on this weight reduction alone.
