The best way to get money in Europe is to use your ATM card. There are ATM machines in every small town and village everywhere. Make sure it's linked to your checking account, not savings account. And make sure your PIN number is a Number, not a Word( There are no letters on the ATM machines in Europe). Put all your expense money in your checking account before you leave and get out enough to cover 2-3 days worth of cash when you get to Europe. Use your credit card (preferably VISA) for all large purchases. By using your ATM and VISA cards, you will get the exchange rate that it is at that moment, and almost always, no Fees! Use cash to pay for your lodging, if you are staying in private inns, since most of them give you free breakfast if you pay in cash for the lodging. Don't bring American money with you, if you use the Money Exchange places, they take a 10% fee off the top, then give you what the exchange rate for them is that day. Just bring enough American money to pay for parking, dinner, etc. when you get back to the states at the airports.

When traveling out of the U.S., to get the best rate of currency exchange, wait to get to your destination before converting your money to foreign currency.
