Deadhead them before the dried flowers turn to seed. Your plants will be bushier and have more flowers. Flowering plants require water to product flowers.

If you want the flower to keep blooming pick off the dead flower & what i do is open up the dead flower & replant the seeds. Hope it helped you out.

Affect? as in... cause them to grow sideways or something? Anyway, they are hungry things, and if you mean you want them to grow big and bloom a lot, use plenty of compost worked into the soil to make it nice and rich. Don't let them get too dried out. Good luck, pardon my jerking you around with the word 'affect', couldn't resist.
