I'm in my 30's. I don't believe Social Security will be around by the time I retire. I also look at how my widowed grandmother works to stretch her small benefit. If my siblings and cousins and I could send her what is taken from our checks, she'd have no worries.

My thinking is that the only people who will care about how I do in retirement are myself and my family. I've only got one child, so I'm preparing now. My retirement will be my responsibility.
