Cracker Candy

It is something different and always a hit at parties when I take it. Using crackers to make candy seems a little out of the box but give it a try first.

Ingredients:

  • 35-40 Saltine or unsalted crackers
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 (12 oz.) bag semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup each of nuts, miniature marshmallows, and coconut or whatever you personally like. Up to 3 items usually works best.

Directions:

Preheat Oven 350 degrees F.

Stir together brown sugar and butter for 5 minutes, using as low a speed as possible on your mixer. Lay crackers on parchment lined cookie sheet, then spread mixture over top your crackers. Place in oven for 5 minutes

Remove from oven and immediately pour chocolate chips over top so they can melt. Once they begin to melt, spread the chocolate out over all the crackers. Then add your other toppings.

Put in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Remove and break into smaller pieces if desired. Refrigerate another 30 minutes or until chocolate is good and firm.

Place in an airtight container and keep in refrigerator until ready to serve.

Note: The left overs will need to be refrigerated.

Servings: 35-40
Time:10 Minutes Preparation Time
5 Minutes Cooking Time

Source: My step-sisters great grandmother always made these at Christmas time. Us kids enjoyed them greatly. Something different and who can resist chocolate?
