Any substitution suggested for the eggs as I don't want to use raw eggs in a recipe?

Recipe: Superb Banana Split Dessert

Archived on 09/17/2009

Are you looking for a great dessert to serve at your next BBQ? Everyone will think this is fattening, but it is just the opposite: low in calories and fat

Ingredients

  • 12 (2 1/2 inch) chocolate graham cracker squares
  • 2 cups (2 medium) sliced bananas
  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 1 package sugar-free instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
  • 1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple, undrained
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup light whipped topping
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions

Evenly arrange 9 graham cracker squares in a 9x9 inch square cake pan. In a medium bowl, combine bananas and strawberries. Arrange fruit mixture evenly over chocolate "crust". In same bowl, combine dry pudding mix, dry milk powder, undrained pineapple and water. Mix well using a wire whisk. Spread pudding mixture evenly over fruit. Refrigerate for 5 minutes. Evenly spread whipped topping over set filling. Crush remaining graham crackers into fine crumbs and along with pecans sprinkle evenly over top. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour. Cut into 8 servings.

RE: Superb Banana Split Dessert

Sounds good, but have one question. Do you taste the dry milk powder? I have found some recipes that call for this have that strong taste of the powder. Maybe it is my overreaction to growing up on milk made from the skim milk powder. All my 5 sibs and I gag when we think of it . :~) (08/04/2008)

First Layer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups crushed graham crackers
  • 6 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 6 Tbsp. powdered sugar

Directions

Combine crackers, butter and powdered sugar. Press into a 9x13 cake pan.

Second Layer

Ingredients

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. margarine, softened

Directions

Beat egg whites until soft peaks form, then add powdered sugar and margarine. Mix well and spread carefully over first layer.

Third Layer

Ingredients

  • 3 bananas
  • 2 cups crushed pineapple, drained
  • 3 cups whipped topping or 16 oz. Cool Whip
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans
  • 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries
  • chocolate syrup

Directions

Slice bananas lengthwise and place over second layer. Spread drained pineapple next. Next spread whipped topping. Next spread on pecans and cherries. Chill. Just before serving drizzle liberally with chocolate syrup. This isn't as complicated as it appears and it's really good!

RE: Banana Split Dessert

I use to make this years ago to serve at my home parties! EXCELLENT!! My recipe called for shaved chocolate on top. I cheated and sprinkled milk chocolate chips on. (07/31/2006)
